Thai - Cambodia Conflict Second Army Region Warns of Possible Cambodian PHL-03 Missile Strikes

The Second Army Region has issued a public alert, warning of the potential threat posed by Cambodian-launched PHL-03 long-range missile systems capable of striking targets up to 130 kilometres away. In a post on its official Facebook page on 26 July, the army command confirmed that it is closely monitoring intelligence suggesting that Cambodia may deploy the powerful multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) to target strategic locations, including military installations, in eastern Thailand. The PHL-03 is a Chinese-made artillery rocket system capable of delivering heavy firepower over a wide area. The warning emphasised that the system can fire multiple rockets simultaneously with considerable destructive capability, making it a threat to key defence positions and surrounding infrastructure. In response, the Thai military confirmed it has defence systems in place capable of intercepting and neutralising such missiles and that it is operating under the existing defence protocols outlined in its protection plans. Despite the reassurance, authorities urged civilians to remain alert and exercise caution. Key advice included: 1. Monitoring official news channels and emergency alerts. 2. Identifying safe shelter options, especially for those living near high-risk or strategic areas. 3. Keeping a safe distance from potential military targets. 4. Following any emergency instructions strictly in the event of a confirmed attack. The army has asked the public not to panic but to remain vigilant and well-informed. Thailand’s tourism confidence index for the second quarter has plunged sharply, signalling elevated risk to an industry still striving to recover from pandemic-era shocks. According to the Tourism Council of Thailand (TCT), the tourism confidence index slumped to just 70 in Q2 2025, well below the pre‑pandemic benchmark of 100. This marks a significant decline from 83in Q1 and 79 in the same period last year . A survey of 740 tourism operators conducted between 25 May and 10 June revealed the sector’s deepening woes, including safety concerns and cautious consumer sentiment following the US’s reciprocal tariff policy . Several compounding issues have weighed on confidence: • A kidnapping of a Chinese actor and a Myanmar earthquake in March contributed to a dramatic decline in Chinese-speaking arrivals, down over 50% year-on-year. • The global economy is forecast to grow at its slowest pace in 16 years, heightening income uncertainty and driving tourists towards closer, safer destinations. • Rising geopolitical tensions at the Thailand–Cambodia border, particularly during the low season, are affecting tourism in border provinces. • Domestic economic fragility, including elevated household debt, continues to limit disposable income for travel . Confidence sank across all six regions surveyed. The Eastern and Western regions fared relatively better at 78 and 73, respectively, as they benefit from spillover tourism from Bangkok . Business sectors most affected include: • Entertainment operators, whose confidence index collapsed to 60, down from 73 last year. • Hotels, reporting only 48% average occupancy in Q2, down from 55% a year earlier, with revenue levels reaching just 45% of those seen in 2019 . Overall, 94% of tourism businesses remain operational, down from 97% in Q1, highlighting the growing attrition risk in the sector . The TCT now expects just 33.3 million foreign arrivals in 2025, down from 2024’s tally, generating approximately ฿1.75 trillion in tourism revenue, a disappointing outcome for such a vital economic driver . Moreover, TCT President Chai Arunanondchai warns the confidence index could drop further to 65 in the third quarter. In response, the council has called on the Tourism Authority of Thailand to initiate national subsidies for bus operators in a bid to stimulate domestic movement and support revenue flow . This stark picture contrasts with more positive reports in other sources. For example, in early 2025, Phuket’s tourism revenue alone is said to exceed 180 billion baht, buoyed by strong performance in the broader southern region and projections of 2.23 trillion baht in tourism earnings for the year . Yet despite upbeat figures from the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the downward trend in confidence metrics underpins deepening unease over fundamentals including safety, consumer sentiment and geopolitical risk. Out in the woods: Too much humidity in our Thailand jungle now?
Dear Folks, Am I just imagining it? Or, is there now just far more humidity in our jungle here in Thailand than there once was? No, I am not imagining this. Because, as we all know, Global Warming leads to increased levels of water vapor in the atmosphere. And then we get increased precipitation. And increasingly, we do get either floods or risk of floods. I hope you enjoy it, because I do not enjoy it….much…. About 50 years ago, all of this was predictable. And, we are now living at the right time when we will see the predictions of the past actually bear fruit, and prove to be correct. During the past two years, we have seen plenty of rain, and flooding, and we are bound to see much more of this, as time goes on. One way to mitigate this is to just buy a dehumidifier. I think I will cave, and I will buy one, too. Or, if you are from a Scandinavian country, where people love a good sauna, then just move here, and enjoy your sauna experience for free. I am not saying that Global-Warming-imposed saunas for the common man is not a good thing, because most people in this land are not rich enough to afford a sauna, unlike in the Scandinavian countries. I just worry about the increase in bugs/insects, which I have recently noticed here. Most insects, such as mosquitoes, seem to thrive well in these higher-humidity conditions. And, during the past two years, after the past drier years, these pests have proliferated. What do you think? IF this Global Warming phenomenon continues, will we be able to endure paradise in this jungle which we now call home? Whether or not we will or can has already become a hot topic among climate scientists. They say we will soon find life here intolerable. But, one might also ask: Is there any other place on the planet which we might find less intolerable? Every time I think about the jungle heat, and humidity, I think of only one man and one song. I first listened to this song before most people were aware of what it might be like to be out in the woods. And now that we are out in the woods, I think it is worthwhile to listen to this song, from many years ago.... Once again...in fact. But, concerning where to flee... Maybe, and probably, some of us are just too old to migrate, once again, …probably. NO, nobody will change, even if they might make token changes.... The momentum is so great, our ship is impossible to change direction, even by an inch, or a millimeter.... Smoke on..... Stay stoned, maybe.... And let's go down with the ship....happily.... Would this be best? Should we not continue to focus on our visions of sugarplums, as usual, denying the reality around us? Such irrational visions of sugarplums....are so satisfying. I hope you have found your sugarplum, during these final days. This is your best strategy, IMHO..... -

Stimulus: Thailand And Cambodia Close To War - Response: Goodbye Tourist
Been getting those ‘are you ok?’ messages since year dot even though a country-wide distance from action, disasters etc. People do that. At least they’re thinking about you. Tourists will always come here, even if it properly kicks off… Bangkok cops a couple rockets followed by Phnom Phen getting flattened. Tourism would bounce right back, but it would be nice if the big you-know-who groups got scared and fkd off elsewhere. 🙂
