Pattaya going downhill!

Seriously, the choco lovers aren't in Pattaya for the wonderful beach, or the pollution free swimming, or for the efficient, elegant infrastructure, so why are they there?

pinays are sweet and more fun.They all paint their nails(unlike thais) and look much more feminine.and ofc you can have normal conversation in english on top of everything.Bars in Manila don't have male servers, sketchy and pushy male characters.But I do like going to Pattaya every 2-3 months but limit my stay to 10-15 days

You have all the possibilities in the city, cinemas, centers and all the restaurants you ever need. And you will find some nice places from Naklua in the north, to Jomtien in the south, if you just care to look around a little. The Pratamnak area is not so bad either.

People who are bashing Pattaya and its area, don`t have a clue what is really going on around and in Pattaya and Jomtien.

I don`t regret staying here for a minute.

I think the many of the tailor and jewellery shops have been there longer than many of the bars.

BTW, the end of your 6-month deathwatch on Harbor Mall, which you've grouped with The Avenue, is approaching. Darn! I was gettin' used to having it around.

 

For the OP--to bring us back on topic--the gross violation of TVF Poster LIGHTS ON AT NIGHT rule is, you see, one of his several sources of discomfort with our beloved cesspool. Why he can't find enough bars in Pattaya, or, having somehow managed to find one--among all the McDonald's, tailor shops, "3D shows" and jewelry shops--why he just can't enjoy himself in said bar and sleep soundly without worrying about condo ownership or lack thereof in Pattaya, I dunno. Never bothered me any.

 

But that's just one thing on the OP's list. I wonder if in the TVF Pattaya Redevelopment Plan there might have to be some sort of tradeoff. Would more lights on at night be sufficient reassurance to make up for the lack of sacred green space? Or, if there were more green space, could there also be few lights on at night in the surrounding condo buildings? Must we have both? How many potholes will be allowed? So many vexing questions . . . .

Patong Beach, Phuket around Fall of 1978. Only 2 accommodation choices on the whole sweeping expanse of the bay with the cheaper option only having electric for fan and light until the generator ran out of gas in the wee small hours. Their restaurant had about 4 choices of fish and if you picked one that wasn't already in the freezer, they went out and caught it for you.

And there are "only" hundreds of cities in the world and a several of them can last you a lifetime.Why force yourself to live in a place you don't enjoy anymore? true, Pattaya is facing overgrowth problems.The reason it floods every time it rains is that most of the city and outskirts of the city is now paved and water has no place to go. it rises and flows slow. The rising population because of "the gold rush" which creates heavy traffic most of the day, also is responsible for the bad smell and trash.but so what? there is no perfect place.I was recently in Medellin,Colombia and stayed 1 month.Perfect!..Clean, green,blue skies,mountainous, avg. temp. of 28day-time/20night-time throughout the year and lots of chicks.But no ocean   .Back to the topic,Pattaya isn't going downhill...Actually the whole world is!

Who would want to live in a place like that...give me a Central Mall, with artisinal chocolates and breads, any day. 

 

There are many beaches around the world without Central malls, or other signs of civilized life, to which all who want quiet and solitude can move to.

Exactly. After hearing the same thing for the last 10 years, I finally found The Solution for our moaners and whingers a couple years ago. I think one whinging old fossil, Pattaya Pat, wisely must have taken it, as he disappeared from the forum a few months thereafter. He & Mr. Midnight are livin' it up now in paradise, as OP and his ilk could be. Why wait?

It wasn't the place you remember so much as the time. I can think of twenty beaches in 10 different countries that match the description given. It's all been discovered and there's no going back. Probably just as well, because I don't think I could stay in a bamboo hut on the beach any longer. Even if it was just $1/night.

Why you want to pop my balloon? It was paradise and I had 7000 quid end of contract bonus burning a hole in my pocket. In hindsight, I could have bought the whole <deleted>' Patong bay back then.

 

Jericoacoara, Ceará, Brazil circa 1990... go pop that balloon (it's bloody awful now).

 

Funnily enough though, as one gets older, the charms of the semi-nomadic beach idyll does evaporate... but I do not need fancy chocolate and designer bread to tell me that I am living the life. A hot shower and a cold beer will suffice.

Agreed, though my druthers extend only to the hot shower. I do feel sorry for those that can't survive without all the crap of modern life.

Sadly for the must have's, they will never know such as the resorts never have huts on the beach, prefering to have high rises around the swimming pool, to make even more money on the available space. Only the cheap places have huts actually on the sand.

Wouldn't it be hideous to have to live on an island in a hut with not much around but nature.  Actually, some of the most expensive holiday destinations on the planet cater to people who want just that (albeit with 5 star luxury):

 

 

This is on a private island in Fiji.  Horrible looking isn't it.  No traffic jams, no high-rise condo units.......and look at all those terrible trees.  There is almost no development that I can see.  It must be going "downhill."  Maybe if they would just come and take a look at Pattaya-Jomtien they could learn something about development that is going uphill.
