Volunteer permit?

IN C M office there is a desk for volunteer permits. What is required for that?

If I move to Pattaya I'd like to volunteer at the orphanage, but I will be on a non O initially and a retirement extension after that.

That would be an extension of stay based upon working as a volunteer. It requires a work permit and paperwork form the organization you are working with. It can be an extension for 90 days (up to a total of one year on a visa entry) or one year dependent upon the organizations ability to get approval from a government agency.
