BANGKOK, 29 August 2016 (NNT) – Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has suggested that everyone should leave their conflicts behind them and work towards national reform.

The Thai premier said that this is no time to think about an outside prime minister as the general election is still far away. What the country should be focusing on at the moment is unity and reform, he added, noting that every process that eventuates must be in accord with the mechanisms provided by the constitution and the additional question approved by the majority of the public.

He urged all conflicting sides to bury the hatchet and let bygones be bygones, saying everyone regardless of their backgrounds should join hands and help the country move in a forward direction.

He said the ultimate goal of the government is to make Thailand a strong, prosperous, and sustainable country where citizens have high living standards and equal rights.

Equal rights ?

This is a curious statement coming from someone who won't even tolerate debate on a charter, locks up elderly and youth ...opponents and all and sundry.

Everyone including the bombers know the military s agenda ....equal rights is not one of them.

Right then everybody you know we can be friends and all you have to do is exactly what you are told and don't criticize.

Look at the thread on Voice TV,   control and censorship or what and yet he continues with the unity etc claptrap.   Far from promoting unity he's just widening the gap.

As this will help junta stay in power much longer and change laws/policies to their way of thinking, right or wrong.

Deeds not word Sir. Free the political prisoners, activists and those who spoke out against the charter. Free the media and allow freedom of expression. Be transparent and declare all the assets of military and police officers. Stop using the corruption agencies to go after your political enemies. Stop the abuse of LM and 44. Demonstrate that you walk the talk Sir.

I agree with other posters who comment that the hatchet would be buried in...well, you know where. This man contradicts himself all the time...'won't allow the past to happen again...' then '...come on lads let's all be friends...' or something along those lines. Wonder if he writes this stuff all by himself?

Free the inmates - leave the guards!

After one of his predecessors addressed Queen Elisabeth II as Queen Elisabeth Taylor, I wouldn't be surprised if he had Molly Hatchet in mind...

Is is quite evident from the daily "feel good" statements coming from this PM that he is making every effort to soften the blow that will come once he is out of office.  Many junta leaders throughout history attempt similar exercises once reality sets in and they realise that what they have done is totally illegal and they will be held to account.  The leaders of Argentina's military junta spent many years in gaol following their overthrow.  Furthermore, all legislation authored in their name during their tenure was immediately declared null and void.
