Just to set the ball rolling, LBD

I think maybe there is an abundance of foreign owned restaurants which seem to change hands on a regular basis.

Several have gone out of business because of low turn over due to the " to many restaurants and not enough customers " syndrome.

There are 3 schools that are private and have limited English teaching.

Thai is the main language and it could be difficult for the children because of this, assuming they cannot speak Thai.

The 3 are, in no particular order:- 1) Don Bosco.

2) St. Mary,s ( a girls only school )

3) Udon Christian

Depending on their ages, and sex in the case of St. Mary,s, all 3 are of a better quality than the government run schools.

Class sizes are lower for one and this in itself is a relevant factor regarding teaching ability.

This is of course my own personal take on your enquiries and others may have different observations.

If you are based in Thailand, which i think you are ? and near the area, may i suggest a visit to Udon to do a personal assessment and talk informally with the local expats.

Also restaurant owners by way of being a customer and observing the patronage / activity at the same time along with what,s on offer and for how much.

Perhaps visit the schools i,ve listed to find out which if any may be acceptable to your grand children.

It,s certainly a great place to live and the quality of life is o.k and it,s well worth a visit in any case just to see the area.

In my humble opinion.

Due to not knowing your where abouts or your circumstances regarding your time i am assuming you are able to maybe pay a visit to check any information provided of course.

I hope this post doesn,t read anything other than offering genuine help / along with observations of my last 7 years in the area. :o

Good luck with your enquiries and i hope you sort something suitable out for their needs.

Boy thats not a road I would go down resturants that is.

2 places serve Mexican food not very good if you knopw what mexican is supposed to taste like.

2 Italialn resturants one is excellent and has been around for yers..

A French Resurant haven't been to it in along time so I don't know.

2 steak houses one not so good haven't tried the other yet.

A Danish Styrl Baklery and returant I believe

Another that is German

Yuo might want to check out Udonmap.com a lot of local information there.

Farrang style bars and resturants more then I would like to think about, there most be at least ten places you can now ge a burger or Fish and Chips.

Best guess a farrang population of about 2K, from all over Europe and America.

Unless you have better mouse trap I wouldn't even think about it.

The good italin returant just keeeps expandign whilr other places go begging customers, but the food is gerat and they have been around a very long time.

Udo itself is a gerat palce to live. The two things that seem to be missing at the moment ifa good farrang store cloese really good outlet is in Nong Khia. I'm not referring to the things Big C, Lotus and Tops carries. the special items.

The second is a movie theatre that shows english spesking movies. There might be reason, when English speaking movies are show at the mall no one seems to go.

There are several private schools in town a mentioned.

If you could do an actual authentic Mexican resturant yuo would eb the only one serving food like that and probably would do OK. But that mean good corn Tortilla and that is not easy to pull off. A a norm the other two places here make everything with flour tortillas sorry that is not real mexican food.

That is as much as my old worn out mind can come up with

Good luck

Why pick Udon? It sounds to me it is over run with Farang places. Try Mukdahan, it is a nice city on the Meakon River and with the bridge opening to Laos next month is bound to start getting more Farang tourests and has few if any Farang restaurants. Issangeorge.
