EC objection to Administrative Court’s involvement in election-related cases

BANGKOK, 14 September 2016 (NNT) – The Constitution Drafting Commission is not concerned about the Election Commission’s objection to the Administrative Court’s taking up election-elected cases.

CDC Chairman Meechai Ruchuphan said on Tuesday that the EC’s plan to propose that the Administrative Court not have the authority to try any election-related cases could be because of the commission’s wish to see the polling process move on as fast as possible.

Mr. Meechai said that other courts should still be working on these cases even if the Administrative Court is not.

Concerning the Constitutional Court’s meeting with representatives of various independent organizations to discuss ethical standards, the CDC Chairman expressed his agreement with the initiative to help all independent bodies work under the same principles.

He added that the new Constitution also makes it clear that any independent organization, which can't set its own ethical standards within one year after the new charter comes into effect, must leave office immediately.

Of course that is the reason, it would have nothing to do with...

Prayut may be willing to lend support from the military court. It already handles the full spectrum of criminal cases.
