Top Hua Hin Hotels Spread Motorbike Safety Message

 

A group of leading businesses and hotels in Hua Hin have donated more than 1,000 motorcycle helmets to local school children.

 

Earlier this week, the Hua Hin Marriott Resort & Spa and other leading hotels and resorts in Hua Hin held an event to help raise awareness about motorcycle safety among Thai schoolchildren.

 

Shocking figures show that less than seven per cent of Thai children wear helmets when riding on motorbikes with their parents. This means that every day, all across the country, more than 93 per cent of Thai children are risking their lives just by travelling to and from school.

 

In order to address this alarming statistic, 14 of Hua Hin’s top hotels joined forces to organize the ‘Helmet Extravaganza” - a CSR event aimed at saving lives of young people in Hua Hin and Prachuap Khiri Khan province.

 

 

Hotels taking part in the initiative included the Hua Hin Marriott Resort & Spa, Hilton Hua Hin Resort & Spa, Hyatt Regency Hua Hin, Sheraton Hua Hin Resort & Spa, InterContinental Hua Hin, Anantara Hua Hin Resort & Spa, Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Hua Hin, Dusit Thani Hua Hin, Chiva-Som International, Putahracsa Hua Hin, SO Sofitel Hua Hin, G Hua Hin Resort & Mall, Banyan The Resort Hua Hin, and Amari Hua Hin.

 

A total of more than 1,000 motorbike helmets were donated by the hotels, Hua Hin Orchid Palm Homes, Hua Hin Business Network, the Rotary Club of Royal Hua Hin, and the Da Vinci International School to the students, who were also able to take part in fun activities such as helmet painting.

 

 

“It is a worrying fact of life in Thailand - and across many Asian countries - that many children do not wear helmets when travelling on motorcycles with their parents,” said Goetz Bauer, General Manager of the Hua Hin Marriott Resort & Spa.

 

“There are many reasons for this, but often it is simply that the children do not have helmets to wear.”

 

“By donating more than 1,000 helmets to local students we could be potentially saving the lives of 1,115 local children. This is a truly incredible thought, and I can think of no more worthwhile activity to be part of”.

 

The Helmet Extravaganza was attended by an estimated 1,300 people, including the schoolchildren, representatives of the hotels & organizations and members of the media.
