Viral Conjunctivitis

Featured Replies

i have one very red watery eye that is super sensitive to light. according to the internet it is viral conjuntivitis and since it is viral there is no medication. anyone have tips on how to manage symptoms? the light from this computer screen is too much, killing my eye. do i have to stay in a dark room with no contact lenses for a week?

Hot cloth(clean) held against the closed eye works well. The hotter the better.old remedy that works well.:-)

keep your contact lens out , might be worthwhile replacing them with an uncontaminated pair , and turn the fan off , to stop any air currents drying the eye out.

Have you been doing any welding recently?

Commonplace over here in Thailand.

Go to the Doctor/hospital. Get some eye drops, within a few days it will have gone

no it's a virus, there are no drops. there is also a bacterial form which i have had before. thanks for the other advice!

Hot towel every few hours for five minutes (or until cold) and dark glasses. And mother time.

I agree with those who recommend a hot towel. The only things to kill a virus are heat...and pure alcohol, which is not advisable to use near the eyes.

When I am stupid enough to apply alcohol with a cotton tip on conjunctival blisters I do it with my eyes tightly squeezed shut and near the shower hose, to rinse the eye immediately if some alcohol should get into it.

It might take more than a week without contact lenses.

There are some general eyewash solutions for sale in pharmacies (not drops) which might help. Also be aware that one eye infected can quickly become two and that conjuctivitis also transmits to family and friends easily.

my eye was red and it was sore. also crust would build up around my eyes when i sleep. i was reading on internet and it was :Pink Eye" since i did not have insurance to see doctor i when and cured myself. i went to local walgreens bought some pink eye solution and few days later all gone. hope this helps in some way

I wouldn't waste any time fannying about with your eyes. Go and see an eye consultant (not a doctor or optician). I developed a similar thing in Thailand and I tried to treat it myself. Before I knew it both my eyes were so sore I could hardly open them. I went to a doctor at Bangkok Pattaya hospital and he prescribed me something and the condition got worse. In the end I made an appointment with a reputable eye consultant at Pattaya International Hospital. AFter a careful examination, he gave me drops and oral medicine and it cleared up in days. He said that an ordinary doctor or optician would never have been able to diagnose this rarer conjunctivitis condition. THe cost of seeing the eye consultant and treatment was about 1500 baht and that included follow up appointments. Don't mess about with your eyes. See an eye consultant.
