CHIANG RAI, 19 September 2016 (NNT) - A cycling campaign is being promoted in Chiang Rai to encourage residents to develop a healthy lifestyle. It also aims to promote local tourism.

After presiding over a meeting with related officials, Chiang Rai City Mayor Wanchai Chongsuthamanee said the campaign was a joint effort between Nakhon Chiang Rai Municipality Office, the Thai Health Promotion Foundation, the public and private agencies.

Under the campaign, local residents will be encouraged to use bicycles as a means of transport in their daily lives. The campaign is also in line with the government’s public health promotion policy.

Several new health care measures and public facilities will also be developed in parallel with the campaign to reinforce health and wellness, and to allow residents and tourists to have a pleasant cycling experience. The idea was motivated by the need to promote ecotourism and raise household incomes for local residents in Chiang Rai.

A University friend of my wife's started cycling recently to adopt a more healthy lifestyle after years of neglect.

On Sunday he dropped dead from a heart attack at 46 years old leaving a youngish family behind.

These things have to be carefully introduced and cannot go from years of unhealthy living to suddenly jumping on a bike and expect to be brimming with great health in a matter of months.
