HUA HIN: -- Doing their part for animal aid, Banyan The Resort Hua Hin recently nominated Rescue Paws as benefactor of their latest Corporate Social Responsibility (CRS) initiative.

Rescue Paws is a non-profit animal relief center based in Khao Tao, lending great efforts in addressing the issue of an ever-growing number of strays in the Pranburi, Hua Hin and Cha-Am areas, and bettering the lives of the many abandoned, injured and abused animals roaming our streets.

Banyan The Resort Hua Hin raised funds for Rescue Paws by hosting several 'Meating & Fishing' dinners, as well as 3 charity fairs during July to September.

On Wednesday 6 September, a group of 15 Banyan staff members, lead by Public Relations Manager, Paranee Centiyanonth (Bee), visited Rescue Paws at their facilities in Khao Tao, and got a chance to take a few of the dogs for a walk to the beach, which was then followed by a soapy shower.

Having all learnt more about their daily operations, current challenges and future goals, as well as the social impact that an uncontrolled stray animal population has on local communities, the party joined in a ceremony to present Rescue Paws with a ฿10,000 cash donation and generous collection of medical supplies & products, collars, leashes, dog food, medication and linen.

Hanli Engelbrecht, Operations Manager at Rescue Paws, noted that their continued success is possible only with the participation and support of local communities and establishments.  Extending a sincere thanks for the generous donations, she applauded Banyan The Resort for their efforts and hope that others may follow their shining example.

Khun Paranee ended the ceremony with a pledge of Banyan’s on-going support to Rescue Paws in the future.

Short introduction to Rescue Paws

Rescue Paws is a non-profit organisation based in Khao Tao, Hua Hin, lending great efforts to bettering the lives of stray animals in the Pranburi, Hua Hin and Cha-Am areas.

Starting initially as a stray dog feeding programme, Rescue Paws has since 2014 grown exponentially into a fully-fledged animal relief center.

Working towards controlling the unwanted population, and decreasing the number of abandoned, injured and abused animals roaming our streets, their main activities are focused on sterilization, vaccination, providing veterinary care and facilitating adoptions of stray animals.

Rescue Paws also encourages and promotes respect for animals, animal care, and animal welfare through educational campaigns at a community level.

Their comprehensive program offers fellow animal lovers a chance to get involved with their rescue efforts in various ways, be it for a day, a month or a few months - even from a distance, if you don’t happen to be in Thailand.

The work of Rescue Paws to date

Our main objective at Rescue Paws is to better the lives of stray animals as well as the communities we work in, by working towards getting the stray animal population under control.

To achieve this goal, our main activities are focused on sterilizing, vaccinating and providing basic treatment to stray animals in the areas around Pranburi to Hua Hin to Cha-Am

Rather than chasing & catching dogs, our approach is to befriend the dogs whilst feeding them - in this way we establish their trust in humans, which will lead to less dog attacks.

More than this, we also believe that education plays an important role in what we do as an organization.

Through education of local communities we hope to change people’s attitude towards pet care, as well as gain their cooperation.

During the 2 years since we’ve started, we have had tremendous success,

- doing over 550 sterilizations

- facilitating over 50 adoptions both locally & internationally

- treated 23 dogs for cancer and they all survived

- treated over 300 dogs for blood parasites

- dewormed more than 700 dogs

- provided wound care to over 850 dogs

- treated over 3800 dogs for parasites

- vaccinated over 1200 dogs

- and we currently feed close to 600 dogs on a regular basis
