CHIANG MAI:-- CityNews – Chiang Mai Governor Prawin Chamniprasart announced today that the Loy Kratong Ye-Peng Festival will no longer be cancelled, but the organised events will have no entertainment.

After much confusion about what and will not be cancelled, the Governor and Chiang Mai Municipality held a press meeting to help clear the confusion.

According to Prawin, the municipality will still be hosting the Loy Kratong festival in Chiang Mai but the events will have no entertainment.

Gosh hasnt  this one been locked yet???? it  seems  100% of everything now is  locked although I am enjoying the mob  rule  posts of crowds baying  for  blood............make no mistake if the crap ever  hits the fan here we'll be targeted by similar  mobs.

How can you have a festival with no entertainment ?

He's also back tracked on cancelling the night bazaar and sunday market.

Perhaps if he didn't put his foot in his mouth in the first place, he wouldn't have to take it out.

People have to eat.

Given the ban on entertainment, perhaps it's best if you stay indoors during the festival, and just carry on with your on-going freak-show here.

There is a medical term for his condition. It is called the jerking knee syndrome. It is an involuntary mental spasm created by lack of courage of what criticism his bosses might have if he did something sensible/stupid. Best to cover all bases and cancel everything until otherwise informed.

Sounds like it might be the best Loy Kratong festival in years

Cut out all the crazy antics by the river, the assault by fireworks & loudspeakers, & the parades.  Everyone launching kratongs  & fire lanterns, dinner by the river.  Sounds great, sign me up...

Will Songkran be affected?

The ban on the ferris wheel has been . You can look at it but no one will be allowed to ride it.

Great for domestic and foreign tourism. sarcasm

Initial enthusiasm swiftly waynes, when in the hands of greedy children.

Who said that?

Again no forward thing ,in the  photo they all look like yes men /women nobody had the guts to say bad decision try another way.

Loy Krathong is a religious festival , I don't think the governor is high enough on the totem pole to cancel it most probably got his knuckles rapped from some high up monk.
