To The Hon Peter Dutton MP

(Very brief of my job ). My wife is Thai, and is works in a xxx position in a Thai branch of a yyy. In summary, we are professionals with more than enough financial resources to not be a burden on Australia

We have no plan to live in Australia in the foreseeable future due to our careers here, but do regularly visit family in Yyy, and will be doing more so it the future with an ageing mother . But this is where the issue starts. Having being married for xx years, the only option really available to us is a yearly tourist visa for which one has to jump through many hoops in order to submit a correct application.

I do understand the need for border security and issues faced with visa overstays, but the current process in our case adds no value to improve security of Australia and is simply wasting government resources in the wrong places.

My wife and I have no relationship with the USA other than some good friends, how ever on her own merits she can easily get a 10 year visitor visa, yet as a spouse to an Australian citizen, we are required to jump through hoops every year.

On behalf of all the professional people married abroad and want to regularly visit their families, I sincerely hope a new category of visa will be developed to make our lives easier, and at the same time save precious government resources.

Large companies usually have different procedures and policies for different customer segments, and use big data / Hadoop and other tools to focus resources where they are most needed. I hope you will find the time to realign government resources to other areas of immigration where they will be more productive and at the same time allow distant families to have an easier time to access each other.

Thank you and warmest Regards

Good luck mate and I wish you success in your endeavours.

Australian governments are reactive and not proactive.

Another option is to contact the local media particularly talkback radio and you will most likely get a good reaction from both host and listeners.

In Melbourne on 3AW for example Neil Mitchell will champion your cause if he feels it has merit.

And as you would know the government do monitor all the talk back stations to gauge the publics thoughts.

wife just applied for her visa for the next twelve months, it is absolute bull sh*t what you have to do and provide,  but then again no different to all the crap we have to do every year for our thai visa.

Sure - but at election time we always get told about all the things they will do to reduce taxes - so a good start would be to get rid of stupid processes

Banks, insurance companies etc do advanced modelling on credit risk to understand who is a risk and who is not

For someone who has been and retuned from oz probably 15 x , is married, oz nationality kids and husband and both husband and wife professionals, you don't have to be a genius to figure the risk is extremely low - but let's just hire 1000's of people ( they have close to 9000 total ) to re assess the risk every year.

USA gave my wife a 10 year visit visa

Good on you Skippy, I have done it twice with my Thai wife and it is hell, at the time I applied I was a working Victorian Policeman.  One of the times they insisted my wife have a chest xray even though she was about 5 months pregnant.

Thanks for the effort.

Not clear at all.

Hes hoping for a new fast tracked visa ,  similar to visa on arrival or there aboubts .

Thailand isnt classed as high risk for nothing. He knows his wife isnt a risk , but we dont no offence and we have procedures in place to guard against this issue.

Getting a tourist visa is not exactly rocket science so tick the boxes and submit the form like the rest .

And she still had the xray ?

No, the offer was, if I wanted a 6 month tourist visa she would have to have the xray,  if I took a 3 month visa there would be no need for the xray.  So I took the 3 months and took some cerers leave to bring her and our first son who was 4 at the time back to Thailand after the 3 months was up.

What about a letter signed by a few of us, I would sign it. As I have the same issues.

I also have an issue about  emergency travel to Australia. If we need to go back at short notice for a funeral etc, then the funeral will be over before my wife can get a Visa, I have to leave her here.

Some sort of pre approval for a Thai spouse or long visa, direct application, would be great.

What about something like an online petition, try and get some other Australians , and there wifes to sign.

The yearly AU tourist visa is a piece of cake compared to the yearly non O/Marriage Visa. My missus never had any issue with the AU. Heck, its so awesome that she can do it online. The yearly non O/Marriage visa on the other hand is time consuming and truly is a test of patience but knowing someone will speed things up a bit but still a hassle going in and etc.

But the AU should just issue a yearly visa without the need to leave every 90 days.

Must admit a lot better now, but I really don't see the cost benefit from the govt perspective

If your going to review such things yearly instead of every 3 years, what's the added value ?
