Trump's false claims that Iranian missiles never hit "fort" with U.S. troops in Iraq
Trump got it wrong on a past Iranian missile attack and again cast aside the US troop injuries as nothing more than headaches Oct 2, 2024 Trump recently got the details of a 2020 Iranian missile strike on US forces wrong. He also again downplayed the resulting traumatic brain injuries of more than 100 US service members. The former President has repeatedly dismissed the TBIs as "not very serious" or just "headaches. https://archive.ph/8SbeT -

Chiang Mai on High Alert as Ping River Surges Beyond 5.25 Metres
I've just been driving 7 hours in Chiang Mai. It is very dangerous, roads being flash flooded. Don't venture out. Can't go to Central. Festival or Don Chan Big C. The road to the Airport is of course flooded. Nong Hoi, the road to Lat Prao and in the other direction all have flooding. I saw the powers that be go down there with boats to save people. The big bridge-type motorway to San Kamphaeng, off the 121, has a swimming pool at the bottom. Traffic jams are massive, people stranded walking on the streets, cars going the opposite direction. Pandemonium. Debris all over the place from the floods. If can, stay at home. God blessed San Kamphaeng, which is not affected. -

Collected affirmation papers from British embassy then lost passport.
I'm seeing your post only now. How did it go for you? Emergency passport, aka emergency travel document, is what I would recommended. Most embassies can issue it within 34 hours. -

Thailand Welcomes 26M Tourists, Rakes In 1.214 Trillion Baht
Actually, a thread from awhile back said just the opposite for this year so far. Thailand is attracting enough high-end tourists but falling short on lower economic visitors. TAT may give lip service to high-end tourists but, ideally, you want a diverse economic mix of visitors to fill the diverse economic mix of low budget to expensive 5-star hotels that Thailand has. -

And so the exodus of quality expats begins. This time it's personal
Which is why I won't retire full time in Thailand. It's nice to escape from a northern winter for 3-4 months but I don't want to be there all year. Lived and worked in Bangkok for 12 years and that was enough. -

The EU's Struggle with Identity: A Shift Towards Xenophobia and Ethnic Nationalism?
Yes, a paywall article, shame, it looked interesting. The wiki article just tells of Stalin's population transfers, very common in those days, don't forget the Americans and Churchill sanctioned the ethnic cleansing of 14 million Germans after the war. The Atlantic Council is of course a vile propaganda vehicle of NATO and the US, and has no place in a discussion on culture. In Russia it is banned by law. Quite rightly too. But then your last link is not bad, it gives the full picture of Russia's diverse ethnic make up, 190 ethnicities. Quite something. As for "destruction of criticism" I don't really buy into that narrative, after all in the US the mainstream media has all but banned critical voices that attack Kamala Harris, in Germany thought crimes are used to silence critics of the government. Russia's policies are just what all states engage in. And i don't believe high culture necessarily has to be critical of the government anyway, if you remember Richard Strauss, quite good music, and not government critical at all.- 1
