BANGKOK, 22 October 2016 (NNT) - Royal Irrigation Department Director General Sanchai Ketworachai led members of the public in the mourning of the late His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej at Khao Tao reservoir in Hua Hin, Prachuab Khirikhan, which is the country's first water resource development project under an initiative of the late monarch.

The RID director general presided over the mourning ceremony attended by over 1,000 people. Mournful notes were read to pay homage to the late His Majesty the King.

The Khao Tao reservoir was built under the late monarch's initiative to provide water to drought-hit villagers for consumption and agriculture. The late His Majesty the King donated 60,000 baht in funding for the construction of the country's first reservoir.

Besides the mourning ceremony, an exhibition of the late monarch's initiatives toward irrigational and agricultural development projects is held at the reservoir which has become a major tourist spot in Hua Hin City as well as venue for an annual long-boat contest for a Royal Cup.
