Using laptop to watch streaming while laptop screen is being used

How would I use my laptop to stream to a TV, while on my laptop itself would not show the window that is streaming, but something different entirely?  I'm using a legit Windows 10 and quite often I want to be able to have something streaming in the background to the TV while doing something else on my laptop. Currently if I use an HDMI cable, I can only see the active window.

Never done exactly this, but here's an amateurish way you may make it work.

With Windows you can split the screen.

You can have an email opened on one screen, while on the other screen you can be keyboarding and answering the email, I used to do it all the time at work.

You need to plug in the extra monitor from the back of the laptop, and (i can't remember what text or prompts come up, but you could google -split screen).

It's like the same way you can be watching one screen on 'how to set up kodi' on utube and on the other screen actually setting up the kodi. app.

Ps This doesn't get you to your big screen I'm afraid. [emoji53]

My apologies if this isn't what you're asking, but right click anywhere on the desktop, select Screen Resolution and then select Extend These Displays under Multiple Displays

Once I've done that, I can do anything I want on either display and not even notice it on the other.

You may want to also click on Advanced settings to change the resolution on your TV to its optimum setting.

On my desktop, I right click and then graphic options>>resolution>> then I can only choose different screen resolutions, there is no "extend these displays".  I've got an Nvidia geforce gtx graphics card and don't see anything in that control panel either.

No, it's a Chrome media player addon that supports Chromecast.

Thanks Chicog.  I don't use Chrome, but might have to if this media player doesn't work on other browsers.  Looks like a new 4K chromecast is coming out soon and since I have a 4K laptop and am looking for a 4K TV, I will make due with laptop streaming until then even if most media is not yet in 4K format.

With your TV connected you might try "Windows Key + P".  That ought to bring up the 4 projector options; PC only/Extend/Duplicate/2nd Screen Only.  You want Extend.
