PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN: -- Thousands of people are now heading for the Kuiburi national park in Kuiburi district of Prachuap Khiri Khan to attend and witness the cutting of four dead-standing sandalwood trees at a traditional tree cutting ceremony for wood used for the cremation of the beloved late King Bhumibol Adulyadej today.

The ceremony will be supervised by the Bureau of the Royal Household in cooperation with local administration and forestry authorities.

The cutting of the trees will begin from 2.09-2.39 pm.

Local authorities have estimated at least 10,000 people are expected to take part and witness the ceremony.

Hundreds of residents have set up tents near the park and stayed overnight to take part in this significant ancient ceremony.

Gold Axes???  An Axe made of gold might do alright on butter but not wood.

Somewhere I have read a more detailed report.

Fascinating details. There is an office for Brahmin rituals!

It seems that there is a "gold" axe used symbolically for a first strike.

And don't take it too literally,

I doubt they mean massive pure gold.

Maybe even just plated.
