Drunk Monk Disrobed For Public Tantrum

Ni-orn Saenmuangchin, 51, sits Monday inside Udon Thani Police Station after he caused commotion at the provincial bus terminal.

 

UDON THANI — A monk was disrobed Monday after he got drunk on moonshine and yelled at a number of farangs waiting at a bus station.

 

Ni-orn Saenmuangchin, from a forest temple in Udon Thani province, was pacing around the provincial bus terminal yelling at seated foreigners when police and military officers approached to see what was wrong.

Seems like everyday there's another Monk,in trouble,

giving Buddhism a bad name,they need to vet people

and just choose the ones that really have a calling,

and not just someone looking for a place to live.

Nice thought but the government would not allow this. When I read the article of disrobing I thought for a milli second that meant getting naked. How silly.

You were quite right. Disrobing means undressing possibly to a nude state.

Defrocking means depriving the monk of his ecclesiastical status.   http://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/defrock

Got to wonder if it was different in the past, or just more media coverage today.

Heard conflicting views on this from Thais.

a lotta dudes that you see in monk's robes are simply guys making merit...there ain't nothin' holy about them...and they drink and fight and get into trouble like everybody else...I quit wai-ing monks years ago...

 

'saaaay, dude! nice robes!...yer lookin' good!...'

They do vet them.

Qualifications, Kill someone , rape and many other heinous crimes say sorry enter the temple for a while and all is fine again
