This a very specific topic so if you can provide credible personal experience information on it, please do (and thank you very much), but if you only have theories and speculation, please don't.

As many people that have looked into expatriating to another country than Thailand after living in Thailand know, some nations strictly require apostilled document(s) from Thailand in order to legally reside there. This is particularly prevalent in LATIN AMERICA.

The most typical document needed is a criminal background check from Thailand, that is apostilled and typically translated into Spanish (or whatever).

Thailand is not a apostille participating nation. Expats in Thailand should be very glad of that, because it's a real bother to comply with apostille rules.

I've researched this a little before, but never felt I understood how it is possible to get such documents in Thailand that would satisfy apostille participating nations. No accepted documents, no migration.

I am particularly interested in success reports for ECUADOR, but the information would likely be similar for migration to any apostille participating nation.

Another variable I assume is whether there is a local EMBASSY of the target nation in Thailand.

If you have done this, providing as much detail as you can may be helpful to all such people that ever need to do this.

Failure reports are of interest as well.

Please specify whether you attempted to get documents while still living in Thailand (before exiting) or after you've left as I imagine that would make a big difference in the process. Or perhaps it isn't even possible if not here anywhere. I really don't know.

Thanks in advance and best regards.

Hi,

I do not know about Ecuador but I relate my experience from years of residing in Thailand and went to reside in Albania last year for work.

The Albanian authorities also require an apostatized criminal record check certificate to reside in Albania.

Before my departure I got a Thai police criminal record certificate with their original stamps and received the certificate.

When I arrived in Albania and applied for residence in Albania, they were not interested in the Thai Criminal record check certificate but wanted the Criminal record check certificate with apostille related to my matching nationality and EU passport which I was using to reside in Albania.

Perhaps you could check beforehand with the Ecuadorian authorities if the criminal record check certificate with apostille must match the nationality and passport to meet their residence requirements.

Hi there. Latin American nations generally require documents from both your passport nation and any other nation you've been living in for 5 years. I even confirmed Ecuador's policy with a local immigration lawyer. I'm skeptical that the document you did get from Thailand would be good enough either.
