Junta Spokesman Denounces Army Caning of Recruit (Video)

By Teeranai Charuvastra, Staff Reporter

BANGKOK — A spokesman of the ruling junta said Friday that a drill sergeant seen caning his recruit in a now-viral video will face severe punishment.

In response to the outrage on social media against yet another instance of brutality in the armed forces, Col. Winthai Suvaree said the punishment was not sanctioned by the army, and promised a swift investigation.

“It was a clear violation of regulations and orders from commanding officers,” the spokesman said at Friday’s news conference.

Pity help the poor video taker when the master whipcrackers get hold of him. Then there will be a lot of bending over.

It's to be hoped the Commanding officers will be reduced in rank for possible derelection of duty.

Duh! The identity of the video releaser - you know, the person responsible for giving the army a bad image.

Had the whacky Sergeant  been one rank lower, it would only have been Corporal punishment.

up further, it becomes a Major catastrophe

and then a General concern

anyhow, they are only worried because it was videoed...

push ups and guard duties are enough to punish the recruit.  Physical punishment is not right

Recruits are supposed to be brainless and they will always make mistakes. Its up to the instructors to drill and train them into proper soldiers.

Yes recruits make mistakes, but they are far from brainless, (especially in a conscript army). This sort of brutality does not make good soldiers.

The best recruited infantry regiment in he British Army (105% strength I seem to remember when I left) is the one which has a definite policy of treating its soldiers well, and as intelligent men capable of thinking for themselves. Men treated well, trained  well and led well are the greatest asset an army can have. Soldiers cowed by brutality and driven, not led by this sort of thuggery are the greatest liability an army can have.

The thugs who were beating this lad would do well to remember that one day, in action, they may have to rely upon him. But then, they probably couldn't fight sleep!

ok sorry i should put it this way. As an Instructor, we should know that Recruits do not yet know what is required of them so they will make mistakes which might get on the nerves of the instructor.

So as an Instructor, it is his duty to patiently shout and scream and dish out pushups or drills to properly condition the recruit into a proper soldier.

This vile beating, and the recording of it, was done in full view of at least a dozen people. It looks to me that this is commonly accepted behaviour in this regiment - and they are proud to do it.

If the senior ranks are aware that this goes on they should be prosecuted. If they are not aware (very doubtful) they should be held to account for their neglect.

Guess you guys have never seen how the russians do it. Look they are soldiers, not pattaya ladyboys.  They have to learn to stand some pain, it's a small stick though.

What on earth is wrong with the men in this country?  It's become a nation of bullies. The strong acting out whatever sadistic fantasy that elevates their ego and satisfies their urges.  Not a day goes by now without some insane behaviour.

That was really horrible to watch.

If any of you have sons with thai nationality, you would not be joking so much. The Thai males are forced to join the army and it is a constant worry that your son will come out alive or not. The man in blue in the background seems to be the power behind the attack. It is a gutless show of a person's strength when they cowardly beat up a person that clearly was not allowed to defend himself. What a yellow representation of an army.

Hopefully that will be his direction of travel, preferably so far that he'll wake up in the recruiting office.

I grew up in a first world country where 12 year olds used to be caned by teachers on the hands (rattan/bamboo) canes for infractions like talking during class. Maximum of six strokes, but the teachers would do full force. 'Black George', our maths teachers, was called that because of the black welts he'd leave on your hands. That was only 40 years ago. Sydney was full of fancy shopping malls back then...

Animals

I know what you mean but really......animals don't do this.

It's a human thing. Some low life scum bags really get off beating other people up , especially if their bosses encourage them and they therefore think it's ok.

Feel sorry for animals. Always the scapegoat for human behavior.
