Rather than asking feedback on a particular model, I wonder what the feedback of owners is on this 2.1 diesel engine (204hp) which is found in many models, from C, E, GLC, etc. It comes in the models 250d.

Reliability, performance, etc.

I cannot answer your question but I had a 2001 E220 CDi with auto trans, that car was a dream, incredibly quiet and went like a rocket. At 90,000 miles it had one injector replaced.

I've been looking at the new GLC as a replacement for my wife's 2.5 Maz CX-5

It seems that in Thai spec it produces 204hp with 500Nm of torque. The torque figure is pretty good as even the AMG 46 version with the six cyl petrol only produces 550Nm ( but a lot mor hp obviously )

Our Maz is the earlier 2.5 petrol version and I do like the way the petrol engine revs out. At 185hp it's not far behind the Merc but the torque figure is half at 250Nm.

Yes the Merc is heavier, but I'm sure it will feel quicker and "gruntier" than the Mazda but I'm just not that keen on driving diesels. Was hoping Merc would bring the petrol engine option in. But slowly convincing myself that the diesel with a tuning box or remap would be pretty good fun :) Only issue now is "female indecision" as my Mrs is also keen on the new C class coupe 250 Edition One. Hmmmmm..

more annoyingly it seems that many CBU car imports have been delayed.. I'm still awaiting a date for my new Merc.

That's the one I am looking at as well. Thought about waiting for the updated CX-5, but in the end the Merc wins hands down on interior styling and quality perception. I don't mind a diesel, it does suit the driving i do in the hills of Phuket quite nicely. Had a Ford Focus TDCI before and then a Golf GTI....sure apples and oranges, but the TDCI did actually go pretty well on the hills. Seems to have at least 2-3 months waiting period and not much in terms of deals. Was offered 100K discount, no other freebies like insurance, etc.

Yes pretty much what I was told here. Though was told some cars available from BKK depending on colour.  My A45 was due around now but delivery delayed until Feb/March "due to the Govt" It seems all brands are affected.

When I last had a diesel ( 3 Litre manual with a tuning box it was fun to drive but had to adopt a different driving style when compared to my other car which was petrol with a manual 5 speed.

I guess with an auto box it doesn't really matter. I don't see much practical difference between the Merc and Mazda. Loading, interior size etc all much the same. But as you say interior finish, solidity amd possibly driving dynamics should be much better. Saying that I have been very pleased with the CX-5. So much better in terms of handling, braking and comfort than my previous CRV.

I'll be going to the BKK Motor Show next week. Will post any info I discover while there. Want to have another look at the Mercs and see what price reduction (if any) Porsche are offering on their new 4 cyl turbo Cayman. Surely it has lower tax now ?

Agree on practical aspects but then a Camry and a E class are also "similar " yet also miles away from each other.

Have you heard about tuning options . ever had a box for my Focus TDCI but had a few issues.

Will be going to motorshow next Sunday as well. heard the Cayman is 6.99 I think if remembering correctly

Doesn't fit me practicaly but if it would be 3.99 I guess never mind the kids...they can walk...?

Lots of tuning options for the Merc oil burner. Seems to be a popular unit for tuning upgrade. All the usual companies have options. Racechip, Brabus and plenty of remap specialist companies in UK. Most offering 20-40% power increase. Not pricey either. Simple tuning box is plug and play self install.

I had a tuning box on my old Vigo and the improvement was very noticable.

Remapping my TT Quattro changed the whole character of the car so it's something I wouldn't hesitate to do again. Looking forward to adding a box to my A45 to up the power to 425hp :)

thanks, will have a look into it. would be good if it is an option which the dealer support, which I am not sure is available here in Thailand. BMW has certainly an option, so does Volvo with Polestar...new to the whole Benz thing....never been a fan until let's say 4-5 years ago, when in my opinion they brought in a new, fresh design language and again in my opinion do look fresher and more sporty than BMW (I always have been a Bimmer fan boy...till lately). BMW really needs to get a few good design guys for interior and exterior in my opinion.....rant over. :)

Can anybody comment on reliability/faults of this engine? Obviously being used in most Benz models service should be OK. Most larger towns in Thailand have at least one Benz dealer.
