I am looking for a less expensive alternative to Atorvastatin by Sandoz.  I've read that Atorsan  is a generic that is produced in Thailand.  My pharmacist who stocks or can order most anything just shrugs when I make a request.  I'm currently paying 1000THB for 30 20mg tabs which split in two last me two months.  My other major expense is for Salofalk [mesalazine] 500mg for which I pay 4200THB for 100 caps . I'm in Khon Kaen but am comfortable in dealing with online suppliers.

If you want to checkout local pharmacies in KK:

I have pointed to the locations of "TS Pharma" and "Fascino" (popular chain) in posts #4 and #8.

It's on the major west/east trough road (highway 12, "Sri Chant rd.")  just after the provincial hospital (Khon Kaen Hospital) when coming from the city.

I rarely pass by there, so I did not notice this new Fascino.

It's about two months ago that I checked out the location of Fascino and made pictures.

See this thread regarding the mesalazine http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/870159-mesalazine-salofalk-pentasa-in-bangkok/

Bottom line: there is a less expensive brand here but getting it will likely require a trip to the distributor in Bangkok

Regarding the Atorvastatin, Atorsan is off market now but there is another locally made brand called Chlovas. It is made and distributed by  Millimed  http://en.millimedthailand.com.a28.readyplanet.net/15486929/contact-us-

It is fairly new so may not be widely available. Suggest you have a Thai speaker call the company and ask them if they have supplied to any pharmacies in Khin Kaen.

Alternatively if you are willing to buy say at least 6 month supply at a time you can buy direct from the distributor at significant savings. Though it would mean a trip to Bangkok, what you'd save would easily pay for the trip.

I have found anything but Lipitor a bit hard to source and not that great a savings (they seem to be riding with high price as Lipitor has not lowered there price here much, if at all, after patent expiration).  I also split tabs for savings (although taste is unpleasant if you do not get down fast).

If price is a major concern I would check with doctor if a simvastatin drug might be OK for you as they are much, much cheaper and many brands available.
