Plex - stopped working?

Hi,

 

Recently my NAS Plex Server updated itself and whislt it looks OK on server side, our Samsung Smart TV free Plex app from Samsung no longer works with it?

 

Anyone else using Samsung and Plex with same issue? Our TV has worked fine until now since we bought in early 2012 with Plex. Now the Samsung Plex app does not allow one to sign into the account, the login name field is inaccessible and the app keeps saying login failed.

If it's a Synology... I have one and deliberately chose NOT to update to DSM 6 due to issues with packages not running on start up. There's also issues with folder permissions....

 

The Samsung Plex client issue sounds like a different problem with the client end - best to go to the Plex forum where there is a Samsung Plex client subforum.

 

Never has the phrase "if it ain't broke don't fix it" applied more than to Plex and its many, many different clients and servers... DON'T update until you really  have to and someone else (lots of someone elses..) has done so before you.

 

They updated the Android client which I've been using on my Minix X-8 happily for many months... stupidly went ahead and updated to version 5 i think it is - quite possibly the worst update ("upgrade") I've ever seen (ok, Vista was a bigger thing and admittedly worse ... but still).

Fortunately as Plex Pass member I could get an older version and sideload it after deleting the 'new' pile of crap version..

The NAS is WD. I have a suspicion the problem is now at the Samsung Smart TV end. I've reinstalled that Samsung store Plex app to no effect. I have read on some Plex forums that the latest Plex no longer supports older model Samsung Smart TV's but not found any official comment from Plex or Samsung on it until now. 

 

I will now look to see if theres a way to go back to an older NAS server Plex addon and not have it update. No idea how to do that tho. Probably simple to dump Plex altogether.

Finally after two months got Plex working again! Took a while as I had been away.

 

Problem was with Samsung Smart TV operating system. The TV was an E series 2012 model and the original 2012 o/s did not support more recent security component updates used by Plex. If I went to TV menu and update TV system it says TV is up to date, but if I went to the Thai web site and downloaded updated 2015 system file update it installed OK to TV from a USB drive. Then the latest Samsung Smart Hub app for Plex works as stated with the Plex server.
