Been looking at the car insurance ads here on T/V and they focus on how much money can be saved on the premiums if taking out their business .  Well to me it is not about saving money it is about the quality of the product . What is the point of cheap insurance if all you get is hassle when trying to make a claim . I have seen it recently where a friend was hit hard in his new pickup by a young man also in a pickup who ran the lights . He admitted guilt and at the police station was shown the dashcam video from my friends car going through the green light , result 400 baht fine . Friends insurance agent turned up and was under the influence of alcohol , loud and rude . Car has much damage and some doors and boot difficult to open , ( suspicion of chassis damage ) . In the UK and much of Europe it would be a right off but here  they will repair it . To what standard of repair remains to be seen but will this invalidate the manufacturer's warranty ?  The question of a hire car was asked by my friend to his agent who was not interested and said you will have to speak to the other guys ins; company and walked away . The ins; was free from the car supplier at point of sale , first class ins; for 1 year but they say it is none of their business and go and deal with the ins; company yourself .

Now I have heard that Toyota are the opposite and take good care of their customers in these situations regardless of who is at fault and the repairs carried out to a high standard and do not affect the warranty .  What are your experiences of car insurance claims and any company recommendations . Points such as road side recovery and free hire car are not all basics with some insurers as is assumed by many  .

You will hear good and bad about different insurance companies, and it depends on where you live.

I am pretty sure that AXA pay up, I myself have Virana which paid up readily enough this year when I rode up onto a rock.

In any country it is important to have personal contact with the guy that will be your agent, whether health, car or other insurance.

You need to ask your Thai neighbours which company they use, call them up and get together with the guy.

I will be going with AXA next year as with: only myself as named driver; paying the first ‎฿5000.- of any costs that occur; saves me ‎฿7000.- in annual premium.

I found an English guy that works as an insurance broker and he helped me out with that.
