KNOWLEDGE OF THAI LANGUAGE

Thai Language Ability:

Able to speak and understand spoken Thai – 8 points

Able to speak and understand spoken Thai and sing the National and Royal Anthems  10 points

Able to speak and understand spoken Thai, sing the National and Royal Anthems, and read Thai  13 points

Able to speak and understand spoken Thai, sing the National and Royal Anthems, and read and write Thai  15 points

What is the proficiency level that they require? I'm sure it's not 'sawatdee ka' or 'khop khun ka' that qualifies for those points.

Are not the interviews themselves conducted in Thai ? Are you saying you can take a translator along ? I thought the process was being asked questions in Thai, to show you understand, and answering in Thai ?

I would assume it would be difficult unless you spoke Thai but at the very outset I was asked if I needed a translator; so I would presume that some do.

However saying that, at the last interview all the people there spoke Thai.

You would lose 15 points so unless you have a high income or are a permanent resident you would have a hard time getting the minimum required 50 points.

In any languages, there are at least six proficiency level

1. Beginner

2. Basic speaker

3. Lower intermediate

4. Higher intermediate

5. Advanced

6. Expert (native)

Everyday Thai can be up to level 4.
