BANGKOK — Capital city commuters will be able to ride the BTS Skytrain, BRT bus system and one of the canal boats for free on New Year’s Eve.

Those traveling into town to celebrate 2016’s end and the arrival of 2017 can use certain public transportation options free from noon on Dec. 31 through noon of Jan. 1, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration announced Thursday.

Why not the metro as well? Are they not that passengerfriendly?? Guess so, they also refused to let us use the rabbitcard.

And we have to find out which riverboat is free? I can't even findout which one i have to use or where to hop off.

All i know is that it's very hard to get a taxi during newyear so i 'll stay home.

The MRT offers a 50 percent discount to the elderly. ALL the elderly. The BTS offers a heavily hours-restricted discount to the elderly, but ONLY if they are Thai. That is year-round, not just on one night a year, so weigh up who is more passenger friendly. And I expect the MRT will soon come up with its own free fare announcement.

It's not a river boat it's one of the khlong routes, and it's in the newspaper article.

"The Khlong Phasi Charoen canal taxi in western Bangkok will be free between the Phasi Charoen pier to Petchkasem 69 pier".
