Fed up! Police do nothing to stop crime despite strong evidence, says shop owner

BANGKOK: -- A Thai shop owner is thoroughly fed up with the Thai police and has gone online to vent his frustrations.

Despite the same man constantly trying to steal from him Noona Udomsan told reporters that police have failed to do anything to help him, reports Daily News.

He says they have more than enough evidence but nothing is done about burglary.

Now he is more furious than ever after 20,000 baht disappeared from his salon.

He posted a video of the thief on Facebook tampering with a motorcycle. He did not take the bike but he slipped into the shop and made off with the money noona had withdrawn to pay various bills.

He posted: "I know his name and I know his surname. But the police can't arrest him. Police just won't do anything and let these thieves continue their activity. He has been to my shop many times and there is never any "evidence" to get him. But this time the CCTV is clear so why don't they do anything?"

They tend not to act unless there is something in it for them.

Or the countries tourist image is at risk.

Try stealing or shoplifting from a Tesco Lotus, 7/11 or Big C, even if it`s just a bar a chocolate and the police will be out to arrest you within minutes. This is because the big companies have a lot of clout here but the small people count for nothing in Thailand.

Another reason for the police inaction is that the burglar is a police informant, the burglar himself pays off the police or provides assistance to the police in terms of, say, fencing stolen goods. Either way, he would be under police protection.

Remember the police manage crime (to acceptable levels) for profit. This includes burglary and vehicle theft rings. They are not there to prevent crime. The police structure here is designed so all officers have to be on the take, have to 'rent-seek', have to pass money up the chain and must use their time and resources to ensure they achieve all these financial goals.

That sounds very much like victim blaming to me.

Yes, some people have difficulty with the concept of personal responsibility.

But you won't get hordes of posters condemning you for that comment on this thread. Only allowed on rape threads, apparently.

How about you get back to a poster who has asked you to defend this very same statement on a different thread or are you unable to back  up your words?

Good point, was in a similar situation where the perpetrator was also a police informant. The police would do nothing despite total documented proof, but a visit from a major law firm very quickly incited action.

Most of the time, not to say every, time the police will do NOTHING!

A solution is going to court... but one will better need a lawyer for that! So...

Not really much to see. Don't think it would be enough for court.

Lol..... The only thing I saw was him taking what looked like a bag from outside a building, so if that bag contained the 20k baht, I'd say the shop owner is either completely stupid or trying to do a stitch up.

Why leave B20,000 where it could be stolen?

One would assume that he runs a small business which deals in cash only and it was locked in his shop.

Poor policing is a feature of Thailand and as a resident this person knows this and has sat back for decades and not said a word ,  only now it's happened to him, that pretty much say's it all.................................................:coffee1:.

Last week in chinatown suddenly the whole street was looking the same direction, so did i. I saw 4 big men running through the crowd, a minute later they came back with a thieve while hundreds of people were watching but he did NOT loose face.

They brought him back into the shop and i moved on.

This is an astute observation. You are right. There is no regard paid toward those without influence, wealth, family connection, or political connections. None. It is somewhat typical of third world nations, but the government of Thailand raises the bar of indifference toward it's people to a whole new level. You can see it in the lack of traffic safety, public safety, the extreme anemia with which this so called "fight against corruption" is waged, the complete refusal to address the completely broken RTP, the broken judicial system, the decrepit rail network, and in many other aspects of life here.

my business pay the cops 1000thb per month and thats what you need to do if you want security. i suspect thai businesses would pay less. cops work like a private company. guy probably pays no tax but expects free policing.

In most countries you would be paying for security. Here you just pay a different company.I bet nothing has been stolen.I have no problem with this as they are on a pitiful wage. This is part of the green light given to RTP  a long time ago.
