Political parties must report sources of MP salaries: CDC

BANGKOK: -- THE CONSTITUTION Drafting Commission (CDC) has introduced new rules requiring political parties to keep records and publicise the salaries of MPs as well as the source of the funds, drafter Chartchai Na Chiangmai said yesterday.

 

Parties must also report the frequency of salary payments to MPs, the drafter said.

 

If they don’t or if they report false information, the party’s leaders would face legal consequences, although the CDC has not yet decided on the penalties, he added.

Oh please,  and why stop at MPs, there's many people in public office etc including those currently running the country whose wealth and income needs close scrutiny but is conveniently off limits  ?

Oh yes but it's quite common here for people to ' look after ' cash etc on behalf of others.    

Take that nice general who was looking after money for the army so he kept it in his own account.

Whilst these kind of ideas are in theory ok, they are simply useless as there are millions of ways to get around it and there does not seem to be any real  desire to investigate people and its all quite frankly a bit pathetic until the major major issues are dealt with. (corruption in the civil service, police, military, judiciary, 'independent watchdogs' etc etc). Which of course it wont be.

Can't see the logic of this as no laws against having several source of income by MPs. Is CDC paid by the number of rules they can suggest? Seem like everyday we have a rule for political parties. Not much time spent on new rules for the civil servants, police and the military.

Your right of course, but its better than doing nothing., maybe some are stupid enough to make mistakes. Anyway your totally right as long as there is such wide spread corruption you can make all the rules you want but they will never be enforced. But this has been the story of Thailand for decades.

Is it really better than doing nothing? its just a complete waste of everyones time and money, they have spent 3 years coming up with that. You, I and anyone could come up with 10 better things within a minute. Its just a complete waste of everyones time and money, and trying to create an image that they are actually doing something.

Problem is you and I can come up with things in 10 minutes however our ideas even if better still face the same problem of corruption and because of that no matter what rules you make you will always have a problem. It will take a long time to ever cleanup Thailand especially because nobody on the top red / yellow or green really wants it because that would mean they loose their privileges or power too.

Is this where the death sentence kicks in? Could we extend this to the current PM and some others at the top of the food chain? Oh sorry they passed laws protecting them from such mundane demands.

They all ready have asset declarations. This is another good idea.

 

Of course all will declare fully, correctly and all be treated exactly the same.

I suspect it's aimed at particular families/parties but all the same...

I wonder when the CDC starts setting up some reporting mechanism of those thousands of Navy, Army and Air Force generals.

 

The are more uniformed officers in this country then their are MP's.

Nothing again it that they have report their source of income but the same should be done for all army personals and their spouses starting with all generals.

More laws and rules is not enough. Need to be enforced as well. 

Traffic is perfect example. Thailand has very high standard traffic laws. The enforcement is struggling.

Why are MPS allowed to receive payments other than their government salary? Party salaries are just a vehicle for bribes - to join the party and vote to command of the party owner, and to allow the extremely wealthy to buy their way to office and power.

 

Is this allowed in your home country? Where are all the cries of outrage from the "democracy supporters", are they muted because "their party" is the main offender?

What applies to the MPs should also apply to the PM, and the NCPO.
