Owndays for eyeglasses ... what are your experiences?

Owndays is a Japanese company with many stores throughout Asia and also Australia.

It seems to have quite an American style "higher ethics" mass marketing approach / fair, very competitive and attractive, and most importantly transparent pricing  (instead of B.S. "sales" that are obviously all the time and bogus come ons)/ attractive promotions for things like spare pairs / very strong and liberal guarantees if things go wrong in pretty much any way. Seriously, their marketing ... WOW.

They opened a branch in Pattaya recently at the new Marina mall, but they have a presence in Bangkok so I reckon there are people here that have tried them.

Here is their website --

Anyway, I'm very impressed so far with at least their promises and PR, so much better than the famous Thai chain(s) I won't mention. But PR isn't the same as actual customer experience.

The only weakness I see so far is looking at their frame styles online, they don't generally seem very fashionable. But I intend to look at what they have at their store.

Anyway ... people here that have tried them, what do you think?

OK, this is an ad but provides more info.

Regular glasses can be done in minutes.

Progressives you still need to wait a few weeks and of course cost extra.

They have their own frame brands and some use super flexible, light weight materials.

High index lens not charged extra.

Almost sounds too good to be true.

But maybe it isn't?

Frames are 3 to 4 including lens including high index. Add 3 for progressives. Second pair 25 percent off if ordered same day. Impressive guarantees including if not satisfied with the correction.

With offers like that not surprisingly they're a growing brand.

To add, obviously cheapest price isn't the most important thing if you're getting  a crap product.

That's kind of the point at least of their P.R. approach.

They're providing a novel service model, some of the cheapest prices, and ALSO quality products with features that are normally much more expensive.

I'm sure like any business not everyone is totally satisfied (some people are never happy with anything no matter what), but I am curious if they are generally delivering on their big promises to most people.

The price packages on frames are inclusive of high quality multi-coated lenses. Customers who have higher “grades” are not charged extra for ultra-thin lenses. “Blueshield coating, precision lenses, progressive lenses — these normally set people back by around P15,000. Here, there’s just one price point for that — P5,000.”

So about 6,000 Baht for progressives and a 2 week wait?

I get mine in Viet Nam for 2,000 Baht and ready in an hour.

Well, that's really nice but is totally irrelevant to this thread which is about shopping options in THAILAND.

Of course, I'm skeptical that you're getting good quality frames and good quality high index progressive lenses there with COATINGS with strong guarantees for 2K baht, but again not really relevant to this thread.

Doing a little more digging on the actual topic here which is specifically OWNDAYS company and I'm finding some chatter that it's better for people using the quick service for non-progressive lens. However, the visits I make to regular shops here make me feel like I'm dealing with a sleazy used car salesman, always the upselling, always the games, so I really do appreciate the TRANSPARENT, simple, and inclusive pricing policy at OWNDAYS.

I reckon that if the shopping options in Thailand are overpriced and plain just not reliable it's best to have some other shopping options,

OK, referring to the new Pattaya branch.

It's very new and they're not fully stocked with frames, but there are still plenty to look at.

I didn't go there ready to commit but to check it out.

The service I received was super polite, friendly, fluent enough in English to share humorous comments, not pushy, knowledgeable, very tolerant of my indecisiveness about frame styles, and even when I said I'm not ready to buy today so don't waste any more time on me while I browse around some more, still stuck with me in a very polite way, and it turned out I could use more help.

I looked at every frame that might work for me and didn't find one that felt definitely it. I found a few that might be OK.

A lot of their frames seem to be about style (some very odd ones like the opposite of timeless classics) and promoting the second pair promotion (25 percent off) so that a typical person might have one for business and one more jazzy one.

I think their core business is the 20 minute simple cheap lens market and fashion thing with different frame styles at more affordable prices, like one of my links said, the H and M of eyeglasses.

Also sunglasses.

Also big on glasses for PCs.

For progressives they can be ready in about 10 days, not multiple weeks.

The feature their ULTEM material super flexible light frames  in the front of the store with good reason. They're pretty cool in that you can bend them all over the place and not break them.

So pricing, you buy the frame for about 2500 to 5000 (most about 3 to 4) and that includes your lenses, including high index.

Progressives add 3000.

Something I didn't think about before was the sun color shading transition lenses. That's another 3000 and that makes the package not so cheap if you're getting progressives with color transition.

Anyway, I still may give them a go if I can decide on a frame style. Not sure that will happen.

So far they lived up to the marketing as far as the way I was treated by the staff. Obviously, your mileage may vary.
