What happens when your 2 year temporary driver license expires and you are not in Thailand. Do you have to apply again for 2 years when you return, or can you apply for a 5 year licence when you return?

How long will you be out of Thailand?

You have up to one year from expiry to apply for the 5 yr license without additional tests.

I believe most offices require you to be on Non O visa of some description to obtain the 5yr licence ! With a tourist visa you will only get another 2yr licence.

However, as with everything here, it varies depending on office, mood of officer, etc etc
