Prayut orders tougher action on serious traffic violators

The prime minister has ordered tough actions on serious traffic violations in order to ensure safety for the people and reduce serious traffic accidents.

Government spokesman Lt Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd said his order came as he was concerned about the safety of the people travelling homes to celebrate the New Year, or visiting tourist spots as fatal road accidents are still on the increase, particularly serious traffic violations.

The prime minister has ordered that tough action must be dealt with these traffic violations, notably those driving with no licenses.

The Boss:

Oh no!  Once again I must express concern and ask the people who are supposed to be doing a job to actually do their job.    This never seems to end and I cannot figure out why.  OK OK  Job done.   Happy New Year.

Ya'll drive safe now.

A bit late Mr PM...day 2 has already gone and well over 110 people dead.....

It just appears year after year....civilian government or military, that no-one cares about these dreadful figures.....and each year it worsens.

No experience anywhere in the government, police or the civilians, about road safety......no-one has any idea!

And why in more than 2 years haven't they done a serious overhaul of the antique traffic law and a drastic increase of the laughable traffic fines?

When will they introduce mandatory practical driving lessons on the streets and a practical license test that deserves the name?

First vehicle check after 6 (!) years.

"Oh my lights are dark?"

Those without licenses probably drive better than those with licenses

In my humble opinion road works should have been tidied up and work ceased for the holiday period thus reducing driver frustration, the bulk of cause for accidents.

Furthermore Thai drivers need to understand that driving on left means using the left lane... Drove Khon Kaen to Chonburi yesterday, where I could travel at (pleads 5th Amendment) while dorks in the right lane obliviously cruised at 60 - 70 kph

"...He (Prayut) also urged that the police enforce the law..."

Is this a sudden "urge", like incontinence, or just another forlorn hope on his part that "this time" things will be different and they (the RTP) might actually listen to him?

Either way, it is likely to be just another instance of an inability to control basic functions !!!

Tougher sanctions on government employees (BiB in particular) taking bribes or just not doing their jobs... :whistling:

i.e. such as the Minister of Transport who should be reminded that it's not all about being chauffeur driven to work every day and that he does have duties to carry out

I really never keep tabs on it but 110 in 2 days is scary.

Hmmmm okay....where should I send the video evidence...I have about 15 serious traffic violations caught on my dashcam from a 20 minutes drive to the golf club and back. :coffee1:

I recently visited a town way up North over the Christmas period.  We visited a certain Restaurant that friends frequent and within was a very drunken local Immigration Boss.  To be frank he was ratarsed and being as loudmouthed as possible about how important he was etc etc.  It got worse and he started 'dancing' to the background music, which was quite obscene.

We asked the staff of the Restaurant why they weren't sending him out of the place as he was clearly upsetting other customers.  Naturally; they were reluctant to do anything whatsoever as he was, in their words, 'a very important man', and besides he came there three or four times a week.   We were told he had been drinking solidly since 11am, some six hours before we got there.   Eventually the Restaurant owner managed to get him out by making it all seem funny and amiable.   He then fell outside twice on his way to his large black Pick-Up truck and drove off into the night, a clear risk to all other road users in the area.

If the Powers that be cannot control Government Officers in high positions of office like this, then how will they ever be able to control the masses drinking and driving habits ?

Mr Prayuth please tell those policemen to go out of the tents and do something. There are many drunk drivers, motobikes without light, licenseplate, helmet and they even drive against traffic.

The Ministerial Muppets are chauffeured everywhere in police convoys, and are oblivious to normal day to today  driving conditions... they need to get out more often in real life conditions, and see how life exists in reality... HISO Pricks haven't got a clue about the people they are supposed to be representing...

Given that's 55 per day on the alleged dangerous days, and they lose an average of 80 a day year round, maybe it's working.

drugOr maybe they're not so good at counting and reporting...

wow!  what a damming article.

It took about 30 years but here in many towns in the US you know not to drink and drive as it will cost you about 10k USD to clear it up and that may mean a blow starter in your car as well as paying for random mostly pee tests.  There is quite a negative stigma associated with a DUI as before it was almost a joke.

" The prime minister has ordered tough actions on serious traffic violations."

How about dragging every mini van driver out of their vehicles and executing them on the spot.

Prayut seems to kind of miss the main issue every time..it's easy to get a traffic violation when you're a good driver, as you might have to do something that breaks the law of the road due to someone else's crap driving.

Whats even scarier is that there usually is 80 on any given regular day. If this was a fact I am sure the headlines would be jammed up with nothing but accident stories.

Here is an idea - get the police to penalise large and small traffic violations right throughout the year.  And while your at it - get them to penalise rubbishing as well.  Making these inane announcements is just telling the out of control grand prix idiot masses that they only have to watch out 2 days a year - after that they can go back to being idiots and risking everyone's lives to get 1 second ahead.
