NAKHON SI THAMMARAT:-- Due to recent flooding which forced the Nakhon Si Thammarat to close down for more than a week, the Department of Airports plans to built a flood wall around the airport as a long-term solution to prevent the airport from being flooded.

Funding for the proposed project will come from 430 million baht flood rehabilitation programme and construction is expected to take about two years.

The airport was reopened for normal operations at 6 pm on Friday, but there was not a flight arriving or leaving the airport because airlines have not sold any tickets to passengers who want to fly to Nakhon Si Thammarat or to leave the province by air.

Isn't that something you think about before you build an airport? Oh forgot that I am in la-la land, where you build your Capital's new international airport on a swamp land.

I seem to recall a few years ago that don meuang was completely flooded too - did they ever build a flood protection wall around that one?

"as a long-term solution"

I need some of that 430 million baht to build a flood wall round our plot in Khanom, wonder how much I'll get :)

The late King had over 4,000 such projects throughout the Kingdom, all benefiting the citizens.  Without his imperative, I doubt much will be done in the future to address the frequent flooding.
