Bought New Honda Bros

Featured Replies

Sorry about this really academic questions, but would someone give me information on the basic routine maintenance required to keep a motorcycle in good condition. I bought a used Honda Bros recently and it is fine but I don't know much about motorcycle maintanence. Is it more or less like a car...oil and filter changes periodically; brake and radiator-fluid top-off, new tires every-so-often, and that's about it. Anything else specific to motos I should be aware of?

Thanks.

If it has chain drive (I dunno), you have to keep it lubricated, and when it rusts or gets too kinked, replace the chain and usually both gears (sprockets) front and rear.

You can adjust the control cables for the front brake, clutch, and maybe throttle. Adjust the controls for the rear brake, too.

Get a good synthetic oil and change the engine oil every 3,000km..Keep the Chain adjusted at all times

you know when it needs adjusting as it will clunk into gear..keep your brake fluid topped up for the front brake..Clean the machine as needed and enjoy..

Friend bought a bros from another friend in uk. Guy had owned in from new, despatched it, and changed the oil every 2000miles. It had done over 100,000 miles. He had to strip the engine for a minor gearbox problem. The engine was spotless inside and all within tolerance's. Cannot recommend oil changes enough.

Alternate an oil change with an oil and filter change

Pretty sure the bros is single sided swing arm with shaft drive like the RTV 650 V Twin. No chain maintenance.

Keep an eye on your rear tyre. As it starts to square off (if you drive mainly in a straight line) the handling will go "off" too. it will drop into corners faster than you might expect so change the rear before it chucks you.

Also related to steering/handling. put it up on its centre stand and raise the front wheel by rocking it backwards. then check for smooth opperation of the steering head set. if the barings are shot it will be notchy this is bad and dangerous.

Check fork seals too. if the rubber lip at the bottom of the shiny bit of fork is wet, get new seals!

Hope this helps and enjoy the bike. its a strong reliable motor.
