Pattaya to U-Tapao

Featured Replies

We will be catching a red-eye out of U-Tapao next week. The last time we used the airport was when the Highway 331 upgrades were kicking off and the stretch south and east of Huayyai and Silver Lake was a bit perilous to say the least. How is it these days?

Thanks!

NL

That stretch around the Silverlake turn off has been sorted, nice dual carriage way now. Don't know what it is like closer to Sattahip though.

Thanks for that. As it turns out, I have some unexpected business in Rayong tomorrow so I will check it out myself.

The first 5 km heading south on Highway 36 from the Highway 7 interchange is a mess with 2-way traffic as they are resurfacing/widening the northbound side. The middle bit of 331 bit past Huayyai and Silverlake is mostly good although there's no direct access to the Silverlake turn off from south bound lanes (no crossover on the median) unless one does a u-turn. There's some 2-way traffic further south before 331 crosses 332 and a straight shot at the highway 3 junction to the aiport entrance; took about 35 minutes. So avoiding the 36 bottleneck detailed above by cutting across to the darkside via Silverlake, Chak Ngaeo or Huayyai, the return trip was an easy 20-25 minutes.
