Tourism Dept moves promptly to address tourism complaints
By  THE NATION

PHUKET: -- THE TOURISM Department will liaison with both the public and private sector to propose plans to improve tourism infrastructure on the resort island of Phuket.

Wanasiri Morakul,, director-general of the department, travelled to the southern province recently to investigate complaints by tourism entrepreneurs following instructions from Tourism Minister Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul.

A fact-finding committee from the department recently met with the governor and high-ranking provincial officials to investigate grievances and petitions from local tourism entrepreneurs about major problems and obstacles that need to be tackled urgently.

As the island province is one of Thailand’s most popular destinations for tourists from both abroad and within the country, issues of inconvenience in law enforcement and tourism services have emerged.

'Promptly'. The same complaints have been made for over 20 years, talking about them now doesn't constitute as being 'Promptly'

The usual hot air and bluff.

Merely a PR exercise. Nothing at all will happen and the powers that be on Phuket know this well.

The corruption on Phuket is way off the scale. It is endemic and deeply rooted.

Every single official, the cops, lawyers, land office, courts, judges, local government, etc. have their hand in the kitty and have become accustomed, even feeling it is their right, to cheat and scam and defraud. What a thoroughly disgraceful shameful lot.

It can, and must, be tackled or the island will sink even further.

Does anyone really think much will change?

You mean like a tortoise which promptly moves, but takes slow steps.

He will fix the Phuket problem by hiring some more tourist guides according to the article.
