Are you sure about that? My understanding is that tetsakij are not policemen, but employees of the BMA (Bangkok Metropolitan Authority).  This man's title appears to be "Police Lieutenant General" making him a policeman.

He's simply following the norm. Yingluck and her number 1 cousin were asked by the Ombudsman to explain why they illegally issued and hand delivered new passports to their criminal sibling. They asked for time, then asked for another 3 months, then said the person working on the explanation had been transferred and the replacement would need another 3 months plus initial time to familiarize themselves with everything! Still no answer given and that goes back several years.

 

So, sadly, there is a precedent, probably not the only one either. Full marks to the Ombudsman for trying though. Wonder if the revenue are checking to see if tax and social security have been paid on that monthly stipend?

As I understand it, the problem is that civil police in Thailand are paid only 6000 baht per month for their job, and this necessitates they make their money from "side services" and bribes etc.  The bribes are considered a payment for their service by the Thais, really.  Like tips.  This corruption then extends up the chain.  It will be very difficult or impossible for this to change without a popular uprising against it, which I am most notably NOT advocating here.  That would likely be very very illegal.  

He will be given the month.Time for him to make up some fantastic story.The story will be laid before his superiors,who will lay it before a higher authority,in a closed doors meeting.He will be exonerated of all wrong doing.He will then go on extended leave,and then when its all blown over,and every body has received their envelopes.He will return to duty.Possibly with a promotion for his honesty and transparency.We will never know anything.And so the corruption ballet continues.

Deny his request and give him until 5pm to explain everything.  Otherwise relieve him of his post without pay.
 

Many bars in Pattaya have "security" who also happen to be policemen.Everybody knows this right to the top.Everywhere you look you will find them,it just depends who is doing the looking.By the way if he needs a month to explain his "advisory capacity"then he should not be there AND he is guilty of accepting "tea money".

He probably needs half of that time to think of good excuses why the 50K went to him and wasn't spread around to his fellow criminals. I mean Colleagues.

If this payment was in anyway above board, you would expect him to be indignant about being questioned, and provide details immediately.

I doubt that any member reading this article was surprised about anything other than that he had been caught.

According to the original article, ThaiBev have already submitted such a report, but it is not being released until the police chief has had the opportunity to come up with a story that corroborates it.

Poor man - he evidently is having trouble with coming up with a convincing excuse (or at least one that is not ridiculous). Perhaps here on TV we could all try to help him by suggesting possibilities
