Is New Cr-v Less Thirsty?

they say so at the honda shops, but they said the same when the last new cr-v was launched ...

any reliable figures?

I quizzed the salesman and got him to admit that the New CRV would be lucky to get 11 kilometers per liter, maybe 12 if you took it easy. Their test drive unit has apparently made several trips and that's what they got.

test drive vehicles are not driven carefully - and most probably only in city traffic.

if they get 11 kpl in city driving, thats rather good!

thats what I get overland/highway

with my 02 cr-v I get about 6-7 kpl in bangkok's inner city.

so is your salesman somewhere upcountry or in a city?

the wheels of the new cr-v are much bigger, which itself gives a better mileage, and then it is a 5-gear.

gimme hope!

We're in Loei province. That's out in the boonies. It is a very nice vehicle and only lacks a diesel engine option. The five speed transmission will help but the bigger wheels won't improve anything since the lower profile tires are about the same circumference.

I'll be picking my my new CRV in the New Year, going for the top spec with the navigation. I've driven a few 2.0L models and punchy so the 2.4L should be good.

Fortunately got someone to rent my Fortuner for a year....

Berty, I'm planning on getting the new CR-V also, 2.4 with navi. Do you know if they also have the rear-view camera installed, or as an option, or available? The older 2006 CR-V Prestige has the DVD with the rear camera and I was wondering if the '07 would too.

I know the Japanese and US models have the camera as options on the top spec models.

It's pretty hard for me to find out myself, since i'm not in the country at the moment.

It doesn't have the camera as far as I know. I've installed it on other people's cars in the past though.

I'm hoping that it would be available as an option, since the '06 model offers it.

I'm corresponding with a dealer via email and it's ... a little tough trying to explain.

I was planning on trading in my old CRV for a new one. I test drove the new one twice and thought the suspension was too stiff. My old CRV rides like a car, nice and smooth. The new CRV rides like a pickup truck. Any thoughts on the new suspension?

I managed a quick short test drive and thought the suspension to be ok.

But... there seems to be some problems with the new CR-V in the U.S., concerning the rear differential (4WD models). In short, the problem seems to exist only with the Japanese built (import) U.S versions. Users report that after around 700 miles they would hear a grinding noise to the rear during tight left or right turns. The fix was as simple as changing the rear oil to completely replacing the rear differential. I got this news from a forum, www.hondasuv.com, i don't know how accurate or legit this is.... just thought I would pass the info into this forum.... a "heads-up" to those considering getting one.

That said.. would I still buy one?... YES. I'm hoping, really hard, that Honda has fixed the problem.

Those trying to find the info at www.hondasuv.com do a search in their forum for "rear problem", "rear differential", "rear diff".

Or go here: http://hondasuv.com/stg/index.php?c=8 then choose "Issues and complaints! What's wrong with my CR-V?"

.

The factory CRV has 40PSi in the tyres, drop it to 30 and it's much smoother.

Since I am used to driving pickups this is probably not very subjective. I found the new CR-V ride very comfortable and much smoother than either of my pickups.

Found videos on the new CR-V on www.youtube.com

A few Thai guys "test driving" the CR-V. The links will take you to youtube, if the links don't work, goto youtube and do a search on "hondacrvclub".

Part 1, Interior Camera Shot, very dizzying.

Part 2, Exterior Camera Shot.

enjoy.

For those who have driven both the new CRV and the Fortuner, how does the steering weighting compare? I'm thinking of trading in the wife's Jazz for something meatier (she's had a few minor knocks in the Jazz, and I'd prefer her - and the Meerkittens - in something more solid), but she finds the steering in our Fortuner a bit too heavy.

I drive a petrol Fortuner, my thai wife drives a CRV. I prefer the Fortuner (feels safer, comfort, ride) she much prefers the CRV (says it's easier to drive and get in and out of with the baby) Either is a good value in Thailand. The steering is easier (more car like) on the CRV. I don't see it as an issue myself. Rereading your post, maybe the CRV is the way to go. The CRV is easier to squeeze into parking and small sois - you want to avoid those minor knocks. Either car is slightly higher than a car and seems safer during impact for the baby than a small car.

Thanks for the feedback. Looks like the CRV is the way to go - we'll give it a test drive. She loves my Toyota, just not the steering (good job she didn't drive in the good old days before power steering!). Wish they sold a diesel model though.

  • 3 weeks later...

on another note: am driving a cr-v since 5 years, think it never ever kicked in the 4wd.

so, if buying a cr-v 07 and mainly driving in bangkok:

is it advised to buy a 4wd or is a 2 wheeler enough?

which one gives a better kpl/mpg?

or does the 2.4 lt offer the best mileage?

i would buy the 2wd. its not made to go 4wd driving anyways. same same, if i buy a truck, more likely to be a 2wd raised chassis.

mileage definately better than 4wd's.

I have read a few times that the navigation system is overpriced and not really that great.

Advice is to get a separate GPS system, a lot cheaper and, supposedly better.

Can anyone speak/advice from experience on this?
