Good Morning :-)

High season here around, plenty of friends coming and we are becoming a tour agency (or trying to obviously !).

We try and plan a day tour to Ang Thong next week, with 8 adults and 6 kids (4-9 years old).  We want to avoid big charters with 60 + people on board.

But can't afford a private yacht of 30'000thb and more !

Do you know about companies organising tours for 20-25 people max where you don't feel like sardines ?!

Thank you :-)

Grand Sea Adventure tours located Soi two in Maenam have around 30 / 32 per boat.... as does Lomprayah who run under the name Lomlahk from both Maenam and Ban Rak

Both provide pick up and drop off service included in price. (if needed)

Bookings may be needed a few days in advance, as I know they are both popular trips....

Hope that helps...

Yes, but one person on one of the suggested operator's tours to Ang Thong with a 30-35 crowd on board costs in the area of 2,000 baht and up (including a lunch), i.e. 40,000+ baht for 20-25 people (you may be able to obtain some group rebate, as the list price of 2,200 to 2,400 baht include a commission for travel agents – believe a private yacht of 30,000 baht will be cheaper, especially if you don't want to be packed like herrings or sardins in a barrel – Mr. Tu departing from the marina by Deva Resort north of Big Buddha, has some slightly smaller two-engine speed boats (smaller boats tilts little more in the waves on open sea), that might be cheaper to rent for a day; he do make special charter, has full insurance (I've been told, have also used his service myself), and he offers pick-up service by mini-bus if needed.

Otherwise I fully agree with SamuiJimmy, that both Grand Sea and Lomlahk probably are among the best (have used both of them)...

Another option is to go south of the Island instead.
You can charter a long tail boat to Koh Taen and Koh Mudsum for 5000 baht.

Just travel to thong krut in the south and ask one of the restaurants.

I do this twice per year with friends and staff, nice day out.

I actually never been to Ang Thong, expensive and you never know if you have to share the boat with some drunk <deleted>.

Samui Boat Charters in Fisherman's doesn't load up their boats, but I think maybe more expensive, as still have to pay for the boat. Might be worth giving them a call.

Thank you all for your comments :-)

Thank you Samuijimmy, I had a look and keep it as an option. But for 14 people it easily gets to 25'000-> 35'000 bahts, crazy !
We are trying to find a private boat for the price but most of them start at 45/50'000 for the day... Hugely expensive I think...

We are still trying to find a great compromise for + or - 30'000 ... Let's see !

PoorSucker, great idea, in fact we will do it also. We did it from Thong Krut and found a better option --> I recommend doing it from Lipa Noi: you get a long tail boat for 3'500, go around the 5 islands, go snorkling aroung Koh Taen, have a lunch there, go for a beer on Koh Matsum, and are back on the beach for the sunset ;-)

In the meantime, still looking for great options to visit Ang Thong, if nothing at reasonnable price we will forget the idea ;-)

Thank you for all ideas, I take time to study all of them !

I used the company recommendations that I know!  When one goes out the the Marine Park or Koh Toa, you see all kinds of company boats doing tours...

It could be worth asking in Nathon on the I think it is the Seatran pier, there are several companies that dock there...(if not that pier the other one! :whistling:) I cannot remember the names... Also as PhetPhet suggested try  Ban Rak also....has tour boat companies...

Best to go direct to the company rather than using agents, as they will probably not give discounts ( if there are any!!) Price usually lower when direct.

Please let us know how you make out...and whether you were able to get a discount for your number of friends/ family!
