Early retirement extension Jomtien

Featured Replies

I have a retirement extension due for renewal in April however I booked a flight to the States in March returning in June..problem is flight leaves outside the 30 day window for early renewal 37 days to be exact and its a Monday morning flight....stupid me I know...

I would really like to do the extension 42 days early on the Tuesday that way I get my Passport back on Wednesday can then do the re entry permit thing.. least amount of stress, however I saw the immigration guy at the desk when I did my 90 day ..the one who checks it all not the boss behind the counter and he said come in on the Friday before and we will try to get passport ready for the afternoon.

I was planning on turning up with all the documents for the extension renewal on the Tuesday act dumb with a copy of my airline ticket ..handover everything smile and hope... ...any advice would be appreciated...

Thanks in advance...

My experience over the years there is they shift on "official" policy of 30 to 45 days.

As you have documented evidence of need, I think there is a very good chance they will accept your application.

If it was me, I would just apply as you suggested but hold back the travel evidence unless demanded.

Thanks....I'll see what happens

You can currently do your extension renewal at Jomtien up to 45 days early. I did mine there last Tuesday and that was 37 days early.

You can do it 45 days early at Jomtien if you will be out of the Kingdom.

I recently did my extension of stay and asked the officer about this matter. She replied that it will be possible if you present an airline ticket that shows that you will be away in the 30 days window. Very polite BTW.

Good news for the O.P.

A while back when the current news was 45 days was OK I asked about it at the retirement desk when I was in the office for an address report and I was told, no, wait until 30 days. My renewal comes up during a busy season so I guessed it may have been about their work flow and they still would have considered a documented travel need.

You don't need to be out of the Kingdom on the due date and you don't need to show an airline ticket either.

I did mine early purely because I'd mis-counted for my 90 day report and if I'd waited until I was within the 30 day window I'd have had to due my 90 day report first and that would have meant having to due another report in a months time. So for me it purely for convenience and nobody questioned the early application.

I had checked with Jomtien first and they confirmed 45 days early was OK. I do the application myself but also use an agent purely to get my income letter from the British Embassy (it's cheaper and a lot less hassle than going to the Embassy myself) and that agent also confirmed 45 days early was acceptable in Jomtien.

Again their mood can change about this and my theory is that during busier periods they would be more likely to say come back later at least to those without proof of need.

I understand what you're saying but it was exactly the opposite when I went there two weeks ago.

I've been doing my extensions a Jomtien for several years now. Never had a problem and always arrived early morning to be (one of the) first in the queue. Always in and out within minutes and able to collect my passport straight after lunch on the same day.

Two Tuesdays ago however I arrived before 8:00. The place was packed, I've never seen it so busy, I was number 12 in the queue but they were so far behind with the previous days applications it took over two hours to be seen instead of the usual few minutes. I, like the eleven before me were all told they were so busy everybody would have to come back the following day to collect their passport, none could be processed the same day. Once at the desk my application was checked/processed very quickly without any issues (although the IO's were still thorough because some of those in front of me were sent out to get the odd photocopy, Photo etc). When I arrived on the Wednesday it was even busier than the previous day, There wasn't even any standing room. The front desk were issuing numbers then people were going outside to the coffee shop. Still got my passport straight away though.

I came away thinking the IO's remained polite and were doing an excellent job in extremely difficult circumstances.

If your theory about 'when they're busy, come back' was accurate I would have been sent away and told to come back at a later date.

Again like I said my experience has been their policy is not consistent even when people think 45 is OK. 30 always.

Your recent report is worthy but may not reflect permanent policy beyond that.

Jingthing, we all know that Immigration are NEVER consistent or permanent in their policy. However the OP wasn't asking about a permanent policy, he was asking for advice about NOW!

You have given advice to many people on here over the years and, indeed, in reply to this post offered a very credible general THEORY on how he might proceed  in order to complete his extension early.

Having just been through the exact process that the OP was asking about I tried to expand on yours and other posts and offered fact (not theory) on exactly what the process is NOW (as of 07-02-2017), plus, according to the agent who got my income letter for me, a policy that has been valid at Jomtien at least a month to his knowledge.

In no way did I suggest anywhere in my posts that the process I'd just completed reflected PERMANENT policy

As sure as eggs are eggs the policy WILL change at sometime in Jomtien, whether it's tomorrow, next week, next month or next year it WILL change. But the OP was asking about NOW and, FACT (not THEORY), as of NOW, in Jomtien he can do his extension up to 45 days early, and he doesn't need to prove any extenuating circumstances to do it.

Thankyou all for your help....as side matter I was at the Australian Embassy yesterday to get my income statutory declaration notarized and the lady asked me if I had proof of income...not that she wanted to see it but that the Thai Immigration Dept  might want proof as well as the declaration....I will do another post asking if anyone has had an issue with this lately...again thanks for the replies...
