Print driver for DIY Laser Engraver?

Featured Replies

I recently bought a cheapo (6500 baht) DIY laser engraver from Lazada just to try it out.  Got it all assembled and plugged in and miraculously, the Chinglish software that came with it worked on the first try.

But it burns bitmaps, which is basically dot by dot from one edge of the image to the other, so it's very slow.  I'm hoping I can convert it to burn by vectors like my cutting plotter and higher end laser engraver and cutters do.

Does anyone have experience with these buggers?  I can find the machine on USB COM4, but I can't find a printer (or plotter) driver for it by the usual Google searches or Windows 10 Control Panel.

FYI, it's got a 2.5 watt laser and cuts paper and burns wood and leather.  My intended project is to cut wood veneer, but I need to get a lot more speed out of it to make it viable.  If it works, I'll buy one with a bigger plot area for around $500.  Otherwise, I'm looking at $5,000 for a higher end laser with a big enough cut area- and that's more than a hobby machine that I'd have to leave behind when I repatriate.

Consider switching over to another software like Laserweb. Lots of stuff in Arduino forums about improving cheap Chinese hardware.
You will need to make firmware changes but well worth the effort.
