KRABI: An 18-year-old French tourist injured in an accident in Krabi last Wednesday (Feb 15) which left a mother, daughter and taxi driver dead has been transferred to a hospital in Bangkok where he is being treated for a brain haemorrhage.

Betrice Brigitte Bureau, 55, and her daughter Victoria, 18, were pronounced dead at the scene after the SUV they were travelling in was slammed head-on by an out-of-control 10-wheeled truck south of Krabi Town last Wednesday.

The 18-year-old and Alain Nicoles Bureau, 52, – Mrs Bureau’s husband and Victoria’s father – were in critical condition following the accident.

“I can confirm that 18-year-old Julien Remy Viallet, who suffered serious injuries in the crash, was transferred to Samitivej Hospital in Bangkok on Sunday (Feb 19),” Lt Col Piroat Chanachai of the Nuea Khlong Police told The Phuket News.

Horrendous. Could happen to any of us and ours. Hoping the truck driver is appropriately punished and not some petty fine.

Every week these trucks are killing people. The speed they travel at. is frightening ! A danger to all road users. The drivers are out of control. And in this lawless country nobody is concerned?

It's not just the speeds.  They are overloaded, and poorly maintained.  If found violating these, a small fine is paid on the spot.

Let us guess.....faulty brakes? Driver blameless? Nothing done further by RTP. Sad situation. RIP.

I can assure you, his license will be suspended for two weeks, and he will be fined 4,000 baht, cash!

RIP all the victims, and I hope that the injured will recover soon

Damn, at first I thought the picture was a car and not an SUV. RIP and speedy recovery to those that survived!

we have been told that the driver probably wont get any jail time. Life is so cheap here. All so incredibly sad and unfair. Another meeting with the police and truck owner friday....

I hope he gets his karma some day
