PHUKET: -- A 96-year-old Thai man was found at his home in Thalang last night. His wife believes that health issues finally got too much for the man.

At 11pm yesterday (Feb 23), Capt Chatree Choowichein of the Thalang Police was informed by an official from Phuket Provincial Administrative Organisation (OrBorJor), Mr Sakchay Chaowai, that one of his neighbours had hanged himself at a house on Moo 5, Baan Muang Mai in Thepkrasattri.

When police arrived at the scene with Kusoldharm rescue workers they found Mr Pracha Kruaphanit, 96, hanged with a white nylon rope.

Poor fella.

Got through all those years, reached 96, then decided he couldn't take any more.

R.I.P.

Agree fully with you.

Surely he deserved  much better.

At least his wife doesn't  stay behind alone.

I find it incredibly sad that in most countries of the world there is no option for the terminally ill to elect for a properly supervised and painless death.

Even now, in the 21st century, most people who are in unbearable pain have to suffer to the very end. A small proportion decide to end it for themselves, but in circumstances that are unnecessarily hurtful to the surviving family members.

Finding a loved one hanging from a light fitting or in a pool of vomit from an overdose of pills (sorry to be too descriptive) is an avoidable situation.

This man could have had a painless and dignified death if lawmakers and medics would drop their religious/superstitious objections to voluntary euthanasia.
