How Can A Guest Be Viewing Bedlam?

Featured Replies

In that bit at the bottom of the page where it tells you how many users are there, it said 3 members and 1 guest, but how can a guest get to bedlam if they dont have 500 posts. Just curious, and really bored.

I used to know the answer to that question - but I've forgotten. I still remember some of my maths, though. :o

You have an option to log in 'invisible', maybe it shows up as guest then.

I think that option should be removed. It's like spying on people :o:D

I agree

I was anonymous, but obviously can't remain so when I post something.

I think it's called 'lurking' and considering the ratio of guests reading to members, lot's of lurking going on. :D I just ran a test and if select 'invisible' you show up as Anonymous, so not sure how that guest is showing up.

Wasn't the "guest" some sort of automated Google keyword search engine?

I thought I saw something on that a while back.

I've had glitches where I closed the TV screen then later opened the web page again. The new page shows me as guest (not logged in) and i can also see my name signed in reading the page that I had previously closed. Maybe the guest had a similar thing happen.

:o The plan worked well :D

I have been taught here on TV that we are all guests here, so <deleted> is the problem.

isn't it down to a google spider? (I dont know of there is such a thing but it rings a bell from a similar question!)

Not just google, but other automated search programs ("bots") as well. Some are designed to scan webpages and message boards, looking for things like email address's (easy enough to search for anything that has the "@" symbol in it). That's one good reason to never put your email address into a post, or include it in a blog entry.

I had to delete one of my personal email addresses (created using my own domain), as it was receiving 50+ spam emails per day. I rarely used that adress, but for awhile it was linked on my homepage. At one point I deleted it, then activated it again almost a year later. I immediately started getting loads of spam (recently, I wasn't able to check that account for a period of 1 week. When I did check it, it had over 760 spam emails !).
