I'm interested in thai-focused writers and novels, such as: James Eckardt, Peter Leather, SP Somtow, Carlo Hollinger etc...........and of course, Dear Uncle Go: Male Homosexuality in Thailand by Peter A. Jackson - just for curiosity :o

A lot of books about Thailand are written by people who can't really write, but this kind of stuff is all over the place.

Why do you think so?

I think Private Dancer's pretty good...

Try Bookazine in the Royal Plaza Mall. :o

Thanks for direction!

I like Private Dancer too, but many of the local intellectuals would claim that we have confessed to being almost retarded by admitting it outloud. :D

A lot of the other Thailand books are cr*p, but there are some good ones too.

What Thai "pulp fiction" do you reccomend? :o

Most of the better books are non-fiction in my opinion, but Bangkok 8 and Bangkok Tattoo by John Burdett and The Big Mango and Tea Money by Jake Needham are highly recommended and many people like Christopher Moore.

MEMOIRS OF A BANGKOK WARRIOR By: BARRETT, DEAN was really good too and the author is a scholar and a gentleman and a really nice guy! :D

Are you looking for books in English, about Thailand, or books in Thai about Thailand ?

There is a Thai bookstore on the main floor of TukCom that has a fairly wide selection of Thai books and magazines.

Otherwise, as Ulysses G. mentioned, Bookazine in the Royal Garden Plaza is one of the better shops. They have another, smaller outlet in the Big C mall as well.

Another small shop is located in Jomtien. When you go to Jomtien from Pattaya, just as you get to the beach and the road turns to the left, (by the KFC), there is a small access road on the right (look for the Family Mart). Just past that is a small book store with mostly english language books.

There are also a couple of second hand book stores around. I think I saw two along Soi Bukhao.

Of course, there is also the online option. Amazon.com or Chapters.ca. May take awhile to get your selections mailed to you though.

All I can say is that I've never been a fan, but he has been writing for local publications for many years and I enjoy an article from time to time.

He writes in the wild and crazy adventures of Hash House Harrier type/ real men expat vein. :o
