PATTAYA: -- More raids were conducted in Walking Street, South Pattaya, yesterday amid claims that a crackdown was targeting topless dancing at the resort.

On Sunday both the district chief of Banglamung and the head of police were in attendance as they threw the book at "Dance 2" nailing the club with six charges.

Banglamung chief Naris Niramaiwong and Pattaya station boss Apichai Kroppetch went to the club after complaints made at government watchdog Damrongtham Centre that underage drinking was taking place.

The DJ was told to turn off the music and the dancing stopped as 150 customers were checked for their ages and drug taking.

Some 18 people were under the legal age of 20 years and 19 people had tell-tale purple urine tests. In addition eight bags of ketamine were found discarded under tables.

These weighed in at a total of 8.29 grams. Fourteen shisha pipes were also taken into evidence.

The club was charged with opening out of hours, having no operating license, no alcohol license, serving underage customers, allowing drug taking and matters relating to the sale of shisha.

Manager Niwat Saengsaikaew, 30, was taken away.

Meanwhile, Pattaya residents posted on Thaivisa forum that experience on the ground was that there was an evident crackdown on activities in Walking Street including the banning of topless dancing.

Unconfirmed reports suggested that police had been drafted in to mount operations against illegal activities in the area.

No topless or nude dancing is a sure way to kill the tourist trade.   If no show, why even bother going?   There are cheaper places to drink and to meet girls too.

I always thought it was illegal.  I remember being in a bar and hearing an announcement. All the topless girls ran upstairs and put on bras.  I asked the mamasan What's going on and she said there was an inspector coming.  After he left, the bras came off.  Watching 20 - 30 girls take off their bras at the same time was kind of nice.  Lol.

And we all thought time travel was impossible.  How far back will this government take us?

The TAT needs to find a substitute to "lure" wealthy male tourists from Muslim countries now.

How about Kat- and Sisha-tobacco flavoured KitKat, and burqua belly dancing?

If you were going backwards in time, the bras wouldn't be worn. I'm not sure of the exact time maybe the 1920-30s a law was enacted that women had to have their tops covered in public. Until that time it was optional.

It doesn’t matter. Tourists come to Pattaya for the trekking, bird watching,  wildlife photography, and the spectacular natural scenery. They aren’t interested in these distasteful shenanigans.

Great job otherwise we will be seeing open sex practice in Pattaya which will force me to leave Thailand for good.

Poor little baby.  Why don't you leave for good and join the monks, Pattaya can go without prude guys like you.  I came to Pattaya for drug, sex and Rock N Roll, no necessarily in that order.

So? I'm talking about people having sex in public, which part you can't understand?

Not if you pay the right dough, dough !

The local BIB will continue to seek the brown envelops to allow different forms of entertainment as that is how that they are paying for their families Mercs but the army of LOS tell the BIB what clubs to raid (notice that all the clubs are not put on notice to stop these activities) .These raids are the army's way of showing the BIB who realy is in charge. The army still remember the way that they were treated when Taksin (the ex cop) was in charge.

Topless and bottomless dancers are part of the local culture and charm of Thailand.  That is what many tourists say they go to Thailand for, the culture!  Seriously though the authorities need to leave the sex and debauchery alone.  It has it's place and Thailand is very good at it.

Maybe it already has, has anyone noticed the "Arab Disco" just opened on the 5th floor of a building on Soi 3 Bangkok. closed door and security vet entry. Not hard to find, about 100m from the police box on the other side of Sukhumvit.

The raids will not stop this time. Brown envelopes will not stop them. The raids are planned and conducted by the Army and a special Administrative unit that gets its orders from  another source.  The pressure will continue until the GoGo's close; relocate or simply change their format. The powers that be do not like them.

There is certainly a concerted effort to hurt the industry that is either owned by the police or make up a large portion of their handouts.  The problem is that it will just send it underground and that is a very dangerous direction for it to go.  If you really destroy the sex, drugs and rock and roll image of Pattaya then it will die a slow and miserable death.  As a beach resort it is pathetic.

It will relocate to other places but in a more subdued format.  Tourism will not be hurt by it's demise or relocation. The Western mongers will go somewhere else but the powers in charge don't care. there is more money in the Chinese and middle to upper class Thais that there is in Western tourists who get drunk and fight.  Bangkok is following the same pattern- the relocation has already started. Except in Bangkok- bars are moving out because they cannot afford the rent as the land prices are skyrocketing and they can't increase prices enough  to make up for lost revenue. The thing that may hasten all of this is the new excise tax on alcohol. Even if it is 10-20%- these  price increases will force some bars out of business.

So does that mean the actual owner will be traced & prosecuted or the scapegoat manager will take the whole rap??
