You can get a van at the main bus station here in Ubon. If you walk in the main entrance they are about half way down on the right.

They run about every half hour and cost 70 baht if my memory is correct.

Minivan services on pre-defined routes or minvans for ad hoc hire?

If the former then obviously we need to know what route you are talking about. As an example, Ubon (bus station) to Kantharalak is about 85km and an 80 baht single journey. This minibus service has a facebook page and will take telephone orders for people who want to be picked up at intermediate stops - no use flagging one down as it will have waited to fill up the available space (reserving seats for known intermediate pick-ups). So on this particular route there is no set schedule and you need to have flexibility in your own timing. Mind you the alternative is a cheap as chips (40/45 baht) scheduled/flaggable monstrously ancient heap with no aircon that runs hourly to a timetable of sorts, but crawls along taking 2 and a half hours. The minivan will cut about an hour off that time.

You really need a Thai speaker to talk to the minibus operator to get reliable use out of the service, unless you have the time to pitch up to the Ubon bus station and wait for the van to decide to leave.

If the latter then I have a phone number for that VIP minivan service we used (or half-used to be more precise) on the 100th hash run that you were at Highlander. Most people would want an 11-15 seater rather than an 8 or 9 seater though for a group outing.
