Australian passport renewal questions

Recommended Posts

Posted

My passport expires on 7 November. I need to leave Thailand by 8 April, when I will go to Aust and obtain new visa for Thailand. Can anyone advise on where I should apply, in LOS or in Aust. I understand there is a 3 week wait, but a priority service is available. Also if anybody knows the support documents required, this can be quite tough for me, as I haven't lived in Aust for 20+ years. Thanks in advance.

i was in your position last year, albeit with a UK passport. I decided to renew in the UK and it was very easy I used google to get the procedures and requirements, applied online then was given a time and date to attend the passport office. Was in and out within an hour with a new passport in my grubby hands.

i am sure Australia will have similar procedures.

You can do it at a post office in Australia however you will need to make an appointment, you can do most of the stuff online and it will be saved, providing you with a reference number, you can also have it send back to the post office you renewed it at for collection.

Hi Smithson
Not sure what kind of Thai visa you are on. I got what I thought was a retirement visa last October, turns out it's a non immigrant multiple entry visa either way does similar job, I can stay here for 12 months.
Documentation can be downloaded from Thai Embassy website in Canberra. I needed to provide Application form with details of flight, date of entry and address, if known, personal information form - helps if you can add a contact in Thailand on this, Medical certificate stating you do not have leprosy, syphilis or dependency on narcotics signed by a GP, copy of passport Id page, proof of funds - either 800,000 baht in Thai bank account, or monthly income of 65,000 baht, all this was to be sent in triplicate, with passport photos attached to each copy, plus set of original documents including passport.
Check out Thai embassy Canberra website. All details are there
