Royal rainmaking operation centre opened in Buri Ram

By The Nation

The Royal Rainmaking and Agricultural Aviation Department has opened a new rainmaking operation centre in Buri Ram to try to increase rainfalls in five lower northeastern provinces, a senior provincial official said Saturday.

Nopparat Pongkittichote, the chief agricultural officer for Buri Ram, said the department’s chief has approved the request to open the centre.

He said the centre would be equipped with two planes and each would fly two sorties a day to try to increase rainfalls over natural water resources and reservoirs.

The operations would cover Nakhon Ratchasima, Buri Ram, Surin, Si Sa Ket and Chaiyaphum and would continue until the rainy season.

Well yes, you're kind of right. At least, it as never been proven to work, neither here or anywhere else.

Because before these planes dump their loads into the clouds, radar has been used to assess them. Only those clouds that look ready to discharge their load are seeded. So who can say that it wouldn't have rained anyway?

A big 'rain making' con' takes place in Saudi Arabia. The met people assess the weather and determine where it is very likely to rain and then the faithful are called to the mosques to take part in rain making prayers. And lo and behold, it rains! The imams can then say to the people 'See how benevolent Allah is, he has answered your prayers'.

Folks are so gullible aren't they.

Hmmm. Interesting conundrum. In God we trust, the rest of us will call in a rainmaker! Personally I'd opt for the 3rd option, the explanation by a meteorologist.
