Bangkok-buriram: Train, Bus Or Definitely Plane

Featured Replies

Still planning a visit to Buriram. I am evaluating my travel options from Bangkok.

In a previous post I learned that my final destination is around 45km from Buriram to which I have to add another 45km trip from the airport (thank you Nomad).

What if I get to Buriram by bus or train?

Are these two options viable or is it better to avoid them if possible and stick to hte initial thought of taking the plane?

For many years I went to Surin by train (Next stop after Buriram) but it simply takes too long!

Now go by PB Air to Buriram and then get a car pickup (Farangconnection will arrange) for the drive into Surin.

Airport is a long way from Buriram city though.

I am terrified of Thai Busses...rightly or wrongly.

Aussiecollin, forgive my ignorance here, but who/what is Farangconnection?

Farang Connection is a sponsor on the web site :-)

trains and busses will take you anywhere, from BKK to Buriam for 380 THB.

Have a few beers and take the night sleeper (first class) to Buriram.

Find somewhere for an early breakfast and away you go!

Personally, I wouldn't travel to Isaan any other way but the first class overnight sleeper. The cost is approximately Bht 1,000.00 per person and that also saves you paying an extra night in a hotel. However, there is only one first class coach so booking early is a must.

Sorry for jumping in guys, but whats the approx time it takes on train, bus and by air?

Overnight sleeper leaves Hualalumphong around 8:30 pm, arrives Surin around 4 - 5 am next day.

The bus journey depends upon which bus you take. I believe the quickest is about 6.5 hours.

Flights take just less than an hour.
