PATHUM THANI: -- Police in Klong Luang district of Pathum Thani said that they arrested a 75 year old grandmother for dealing in Ya Ba.

They went to her house in Klong 4 and found 10 pills hidden in a pink shirt, reported Sanook.

The woman - who was not named - said she bought the drugs from a man in Klong 5.

She claimed she was dealing drugs and selling to teenagers near her house in order to get money to help pay for the care of her paralyzed husband.

Police and soldiers then expanded the enquiry and arrested two more men who were found in possession of Ya ba and Ice or methamphetamine.

One, a 34 year old man, had run off when the authorities arrived but was soon arrested.

No one was named in the sanook.com story.

A situation that highlights the plight of poor people

being taken advantage of by pushers, Grandma gets locked up

where does the burden of her husband pass to, if she has no family

willing to look after her husband, more compassion and help from the state

maybe would have elevated some of her financial problems,

one of many situations that need alternative measures, than time

in the monkey house.

Very sad;  the old gal probably was all out of income options at that age.

If it's the option of selling drugs and starving or not being able to get medical care, many go the illegal route.

At least in prison, one will get food, possibly medical attention, company and sex!

Are you a troll?  The content says nothing about a husband.  Most Thai women outlive their husbands and most Thai men leave their wives long before they get to the ripe old age of 70+.

Sex in Thailand is as common as a handshake.

When a government easily finds the funds to pay for needless military equipment, and at the same time is unwilling to provide adequate healthcare for it's citizens, thus forcing them into taking desperate measures to care for their loved ones, it is transparent whose needs that government is serving.

This is really sad. I wish Thais had humanity and compassion, but sadly this little lady is going to jail unless someone stumps up bail.

I feel especially sorry for her husband, who now is going to face a very tough future.
