BANGKOK: -- A 65-year-old woman was killed in a fire that burned down 20 wooden houses in a community along a railway line in Bangkok’s Thonburi district early Monday.

Police said the fire started at about 3am at the Suanplu community along the Wong Wien Yai-Mahachai railway line in Bang Yi Rue subdistrict.

After firefighters took about 90 minutes to control the blaze, the charred body of Jumaporn Tipthaweesuk was found.

A firefighter, Supoj Chomsinsup, 31, suffered a severe burn on his right ankle and was sent to Phayathai 3 Hospital.

Residents of the community said they saw the fire start at a food shop owned by a woman, identified only as Toi. Police will summon her for questioning.
